Ask the Experts / Re: Preakness Archives

I\'d take Bravazo off that list though. I had a big score that day thanks to The Coach and him. Bravazo had great turn of foot and had run a huge race way wide on all turns at the Derby finishing a sneaky 6th.

He can finish third like Tenfold.

I see Authentic run somewhat like Dortmund did giving way to Honor AP and Tiz the Law battling it out for a close finish.

Waiting for the Man o\'War - Secretariat match race next up.

Virtual Slew ran his heart out, wish I could see him live. Not too shabby for a $83,000 colt in 2020 dollars arguably still the best ROI in thoroughbred racing history.

Justify had a cameo as the Gallant Fox of the modern era.

Who\'d make a dent in this race from among the Triple Crown near misses?

That\'s the dictionary definition of snatching victory from the jaw of defeat!!!
Right up there with Arrogate\'s Dubai race for me.  Love this horse!!!  Still hurts that he was taken down as the real KD winner.

Was it a golden rail for both Risen Stars as some claim? They say most of the time claims of track bias is exaggerated but if that’s the real thing yesterday it’s a pity track superintendents at Fair Grounds failed to create a playing field that can live up to their name on a big day like this.

Ask the Experts / Re: Travers Day Card
August 22, 2019, 09:37:01 AM
I will fly in for Travers Day from West coast on Friday.  My second time at the SPA, the first was the Whitney Day Gun Runner toyed with the field.  Flight got canceled had to land in Syracuse and rent the last car 5 minutes before the guys were leaving for home shutting down the airport. 3-hour drive under heavy rain etc. so was quite the I didn\'t bargain for adventure the first time around.  Guess I don\'t learn my lessons :)

Is there a live seminar in the morning this time? Where do T-generates hang out in general?  Good luck to all!

Ask the Experts / Joel Rosario
June 09, 2019, 10:20:51 AM
First Everfast in the Preakness and now Sir Winston.  Kudos to Rosario for great rides.  Now I know what people mean by \"being Rosarioed\"

If memory serves there were past post complaining about Joel\'s too wide bad rides in here.  So is it fair to conclude he has the widest standard deviation among fellow jocks and that it\'s a coin toss what you\'ll get on any given day?

They say look at Derby runners in the Preakness, but not this year.  I\'m against all.  Figures to be a fast pace so I like what IMO is the best closer: Owendale.  He\'s my key.

Think Improbable took most of the OB money as he was just half a length behind the early favorite on a sloppy track in a race that produced Derby winners.  Santa Anita Derby produced confusing signals and seems most people didn\'t buy into Roadster being that good after what seemed a great ground-saving ride that\'s hard to replicate in the Derby.

Why is the number of foals going down?
Is it b/c only the cream de la creme make regally-bred types make breeders any money?

Nice horse but I’m afraid Country House had its Keen Ice moment of glory already.  Will bet against if he makes it to Preakness. If he got couple more DQs going his way and somehow won the TC, that one would have an asterisk for me. It has to, no other TC winner left a doubt whether they were the best horse to my knowledge.

Ask the Experts / Re: Can't have it both ways

How about last year\'s Belmont?

If that edition were to take place this year after the KD DQ saga...one could argue Bravazo\'s chances to hit the board was severely limited after the \"race riding\" on Restoring Hope. Ok, one can say that was in the first turn. If so, is the new norm that you can go crazy before the stretch run but have to be in your best behavior after the second turn?

Seems like a whole new can of worms has been opened...and there will likely be many more objections and long waits to find the Triple Crown race winners from now on.

Lost in all these discussions is Flavien Prat\'s impact on the whole episode.

Here he pauses for a suspiciously long while before he agrees with the questioner that he wasn\'t impacted and then mumbles something that can be interpreted as \"Yeah, I was affected after all...\": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNKj7xQvbIo

I\'m curious to find what people think about Flavien Prat\'s conduct:

a) The guy should be given a medal for letting justice be served

b) He\'s just an opportunist who though had the right to had no business in filing an objection since his horse wasn\'t involved

Does his behavior serve as a desirable precedent going forward?  Does this happen very often, where jockeys for good (concern for the overall safety of the sport/horses) or bad (just looking for any excuse to gain a spot or two and collect better checks) reasons try their hand?

Or to look at it another way, as an owner, are you now more or less willing to pick Flavien for your mount?

Master Fencer almost made it to the board per Trakus...quite a feat flying all the way around the globe and jumping into the mud after a single gallop before race day.  On the flip side, what does this say about this crop?
