I would love to have seen the Hurricanes get pounded by Green Bay.
The Miami scUM, Co-Canes...
Winning and losing streaks happen. Gators. Hosses. Charlie Sheen.
Life goes on. I\'ve been playing since Tropical Park. Only took jobs that were near a track. Tampa, Phoenix, Livermore, and PBG. Now retired to Living Room Downs.
My lifelong motto in every endeavor... Adapt.

Ask the Experts / Re: Tampa Derby Late Pick-4 Refund
March 18, 2024, 10:30:08 AM
To make it even worse, their last press release makes it seem like they paid the consolation for the late pick 4. Perhaps Twinspires is the problem?

https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/275621/tampa-bay-downs-outlines-decisions-amid-tote-problems

\"Customer satisfaction and trust are at the foundation of our business, and anything that erodes that needs to be addressed,\" Berube said. Is that a joke?

He added that the decision to pay off on multi-race wagers, such as Pick 3s, Pick 4s, and Daily Doubles, by stipulating \"ALL\" winners of the 11th and 12th races was made in accordance with Florida pari-mutuel statutes, which are similar to nationwide standard rules whereby \"no contest\" or \"no race\" designations dictate awarding \"ALL\" runners as the \"winners\" for such legs.

Still no explanation for the late pick 4 refund vs consolation. And his explanation of “bulky” data is absolutely laughable. We will soon have millions of simultaneous self-driving cars on the road with an incredible amount of “bulky” split-second data throughput and an inordinate amount of lives on the line. One hundred thousand wagers is infinitesimal in comparison.
No reply from the track? It’s not like I’m complaining about my refunded superfecta wager with the winning combination. I can understand and accept that… it was declared a non-wagering event before it was run. All I asked of the track was a link to the applicable rules and regulations.

Ask the Experts / Tampa Derby Late Pick-4 Refund

Tampa Bay Derby 2024

Race 9 won by #3
Race 10 won by #5
Race 11 run but declared a non-wagering event
Race 12 canceled

Consolation payouts approved:
Pick 3 (races 9/10/11)  3/5/ALL
Pick 3 (races 10/11/12)  5/ALL/ALL

Refund approved:
Pick 4 (races 9/10/11/12)

Why not a consolation 3/5/ALL/ALL on the late pick-4?

Kentucky rules clearly state that the wager is to be refunded if MORE than half of the races are canceled. Otherwise, consolation payoffs are in order. That means the late pick-3 should have been refunded since 2/3 of the races were canceled. The late pick-4 should have paid a consolation amount since only 1/2 of the races were canceled/non-wagering.

Florida rules are apparently \"missing\". I could not find them and got no response from TB, GP, or the FL Racing Commission. Twinspires refunded the wager and said \"Unfortunately all payout decisions are made directly by the track\".

Anybody else have the first two legs and settled for a refund? My only thought is that the late Pick-4 was compromised (past-posted?) and they have no idea what the legitimate pool was. Very suspicious. The track ignored my request to show me the Florida statutes, as if they don\'t exist. The latest TB press release claims they followed industry standards, but they clearly didn\'t.

Fraud? Negligence? Cause for class action/punitive damages? Can\'t be ignorance because they spent all night supposedly figuring it out.

What are the odds of a Triple Crown winner this year?
Zero, Mandaloun is not running.
Why is he not attempting it? He\'s not a one-hit wonder like Country House. Nor is Cox anything like Mott.

Irony:
Cox gets the Derby win via a failed drug test?

Karma:
BB nailed for one thing he didn\'t do?

Clarity:
Test is picograms per milliliter of blood.

Infinity:
Detected amount divided by allowable level.

Justify:
No justifying this as a \"Garbage Test\" since it applies to all.

Disagree with hard line against NCAA. The college boys here haven\'t trained and rehabbed all year to sit on their arse. They want to play. \"Don\'t need some dude in a suit and a tie telling me no\". Their words, not mine... Play ball and run the ponies w/o live spectators.
Perhaps you can make an argument for oppo lawsuits... taking away their livelihood. Always gonna be negligence!

Great, lets make sure the shysters and pettifoggers keep working. That\'s more scandalous and problematic than the racing cheats. Ambulance chasers will file suit for vaccine injury AND now you say they will also file if somebody simply contracts the virus? In other words, deep pockets are always negligent. (no need to point out that corona has no current vaccine and is less understood). It\'s anything to make a buck, a la Navarro and Servis.

I misread the news. At first glance, I thought it said Baffert was going to \"Maximum Security\". But then I realized that Bob is completely innocent. Besides, this is all white collar crime that can be adjudicated with fines and country clubs.

\\s

Can we now take the asterisk off of Country House? And take the moron label off the stewies that made the Derby DQ? As always, the real morons and losers are the bettors...

Those who think it was merely race riding will be the first to cry foul next year when TAP has 5 entered in the Derby and he turns it into a rodeo. Since the stewards took no action, the ride was clearly legit... but IMO it sets a piss poor precedent. All thoroughbred owners should boycott Frenchie for a year! Of course that is a joke, since we all know that there is zero collaboration in this industry... except for the collusion necessary among participants to \'guarantee\' the outcome of certain races, like this year\'s Belmont...

Is that really what I said? Not a great reading on your part, TPeck. I asked for thoughts AFTER the race. Absolutely nothing to do with wagering. No sour grapes either, since I got the sheets but not the seminar. Seems like all but a few on this board think of their responses before they even read the GD post.

JB graciously provided his POST-Derby numbers and as I looked them over, I saw two horses that deserved discussion. Not sure how solid the figs could be considering the sloppy track and hot pace. I was obviously wrong. The two jumps to zero deserve zero discussion from the host, literally. Guessing the other guys didn\'t find it so easy. But rest easy, JB is on the case of the Rags delay.

The original question reads as follows:
how about offering up your thoughts [regarding the Derby tops by Bravazo and Instilled Regard].
Pretty straightforward, unlike the two non-answers.

So, even though they ran much better than expected, there’s nothing to discuss because you would play it the exact same way in a hypothetically identical seminar in the future? I.e., the slop and hot pace and trainer m.o. explain the jump ups but can never be predicted a priori, so just forget about it and move on to the next race?
Perhaps I am asking the wrong question...

JB, instead of checking out the other guys, how about offering up your thoughts on the two E horses that ran the 3rd (tied) and 4th best numbers. Slop and pace have to be contributors to the big unexpected jumps... wondering if anything else occurs to you in hindsight?

Any chance you went to Emerson Elementary? I would walk over to Tropical Park after school to watch races from outside the fence near the chute on the grandstand side. Early 1960s!
