IMO, if they do...Churchill Will be the last if they do.

Stronach well all I can do is laugh at her

Just a matter of time...think about it for a minute... Most every state, local, and nation officials as well as virtually EVERY medical infectious disease expert had stated \"stay away from large crowds...NBA postponed...NCAA March Madness with no Madness (no fans in the stands)...NHL on the verge of postponing their season...MLB in discussions in starting their season with no fans... Horse racing will be forced to follow along...it will also become a legal issue... Imagine if ALL of the professional sports are in lock step... Racing (CD) decides on their own to conduct business as usual...then people attending the Derby get infected by other patrons...the lawsuits that would follow would be staggering... The Derby is in 58 days...IF there is a drastic reduction in the spread of the virus (and it would have to happen within the next 30 days there might be a possibility having the Derby festivities... however given the incredibly rapid developments in the past 24 hours? I seriously doubt that it happens...my guess is that they run the race with no one in the stands... Living room downs anyone?

Great, lets make sure the shysters and pettifoggers keep working. That\'s more scandalous and problematic than the racing cheats. Ambulance chasers will file suit for vaccine injury AND now you say they will also file if somebody simply contracts the virus? In other words, deep pockets are always negligent. (no need to point out that corona has no current vaccine and is less understood). It\'s anything to make a buck, a la Navarro and Servis.

As someone involved in a large Charity Event that weekend no fans in the stands is not an option. And for the Track they cant support those purses without the people.

The First Saturday in June can work. And if there was ever a time to look how the model works of more spaci g for the Triple Crown, now would be it. The last weekend of the Belmont Meet could be Belmont Stakes day.

These businesses have fixed costs and Bill\'s to pay. Think outside the box. Meanwhile please squeeze one more weekend of LIVE out for me....haha

FYI there is talk the Florida Derby could be cancelled. So who qualifies with a points system?

The option that makes the most sense is to push everything back. And who gives a crap about the No No No the boating season opens in Baltimore it has to be that weekend. Fine! Move the Preakness.

Silver:

Postponing it is obviously the better option...the unknown (for all sporting events and the entire country!) is for how long... hopefully things calm down by mid April and all of the postponed events can get resume...BUT...I learned a long time ago hope is not a strategy...

why stop at big days, might just outright cancel

For now Santa Anita will run races with no fans allowed. That can change.

One main obstacle with the The Triple Crown is happens at 3 different venues. So that requires cooperation. We all know how that goes in horse racing.

Beyond that there are a lot vendors who rely on that income so a \"peopleless event\" is a financial problem for more than just the Tracks. This is the United States of America and the people in this country are tough and flexible. Adjustments need to happen and the people will understand. The Breeders Cup still occurred 60 days after 9-11 in New York and we may have already been at War by then.

So far the only PIGS who are going on about business is the NCAA. Its business as usual. The flesh of the Kids we use every year will be out there on a made for TV Only event and life goes on. Screw the schools and the fans. They are so flush with TV money that don\'t fu&king care......

P-Dub

There is no way the NCAAB tournament is played.  That will probably be cancelled later today.

Sounds like racing is next also.

CHDN has been cut in half, good news for those that hate that outfit I guess

Not sure why they are only cancelling large gatherings like 500 people in NY.

You mean 50 is safe ?

Paolo

Disagree with hard line against NCAA. The college boys here haven\'t trained and rehabbed all year to sit on their arse. They want to play. \"Don\'t need some dude in a suit and a tie telling me no\". Their words, not mine... Play ball and run the ponies w/o live spectators.
Perhaps you can make an argument for oppo lawsuits... taking away their livelihood. Always gonna be negligence!

johnnym

Couldn’t they just say this is mostly affecting the elderly (over 70) and people with underlying medical conditions.
We urge this group of people to please stay away from large events!
Don’t like the way this is heading at all

It\'s a brutal decision no matter what you do.

For instance, the more businesses you close the more paychecks people are going to miss.  Which means the more mortgage payments and rents and car payments that won\'t be paid.  Do people lose their houses?  Do renters get kicked out? Do people lose their cars?

How many businesses never re-open due to loans not being repaid?  How many people are bankrupted?

You close schools?  Well, lots of kids get their only decent meals at school.  And lots of kids would have to stay with their grandparents during the day.  Kids CARRY Covid-19, grandparents CONTRACT it.

Sometimes the only choices available are bad.
