Ask the Experts / Re: Teflon Todd

I think Dan Lauletta said it best in this past Mondays N.Y. Daily News:

MAKE SUSPENSIONS MEANINGFUL: For jockeys, eliminate graded stakes exceptions and expedite appeals so that riders cannot put off taking days until it suits their schedule. For trainers, get rid of the 60- and 90- day suspensions that are mostly cosmetic and try starting bans at one week, but make it so that any horse in that trainer\'s name at the time of the ruling is ineligible to race during the suspension. Ensure quick appeals and no graded stakes exemptions. This will get the attention of the owners and keep trainers fearful of being caught using anything illegal.

Something needs to be done ! When is Sciacca ever going to do his time,I seem to remember him testing positive  quite a long time ago.The appeal process is ridiculous...Shouldn\'t the vets also be held accountable.Something tells me Dutrow/Pletcher..share or once shared the same vet,as I now see him doing work in another Ny barn that seems to be on a streak..

Totally different game here in Ny.Its amazing what trainers get away with,a slap on wrist ,its totally insane. How  can a small legitimate trainer trying to make a living in this business compete.Stricter panalties need to take affect..

In todays daily news  we have read about Pletcher  finally having to  do his days,S.Lake gaining another 30  days.A couple of Ny horsemen are still on appeal. Its outragous, then even when doing their days, barn continues to run as usual. Why is it that there are no consequenses for vets administering the drugs. And only God knows  what they are actually coming up  positive for. Something really needs to be done about this. The state of racing  here in Ny I feel,is in a sorry state..

There are definitely trainers out there that doing everything the right way, unfortunately they can not compete with those trainers that for sure are using substances they are aware are not allowed. Its an unfair game when  those trainers  are allowed to continue operating  and are actually still allowed to run horses under assistants name when finally  after many months of appeal are given days..Unless stronger penalties for positives are a given, racing anywhere will continue to be  unfair.

Not sure how horses/trainers can be accurately handicapped, when it seems not honest information is  given.Todays card at Aqueduct has horse owned bystable(don\'t want to mention name, anyone that follows  the races ,I am sure  will pick up on this)Stable employs at the moment 2 different trainers at same location, and from race to race, same horse  goes back and forth from being trained by both trainers. This has  happend  with horses owned by same stable often over the past couple of months. One of the trainers named is not even on the grounds.I would like to know who is actually training these horses.I find it very confusing to handicap this particular stable of horses.
