Race after first time whipping

First of all, this thread is not meant to pass judgement on whether or not it is OK to whip a horse 30 times, not trying to go there at all.  This thread is whether or not horses who are significantly talented and have never been whipped, then suddenly are whipped extensive, backup more than normal in their next race.

Just read the Steve Haskin article where he asserts that AP was never whipped in any races prior to the Derby, I have not went back to review the tape to see if this is true or not, but let\'s assume for a min that it is.

The article also mentions that there was a great deal of controversy on International Star\'s LA Derby where Mena whipped him at least 30 times (but no mention if that was the first time he was whipped).

The other thing I\'ll include for entertainment value only is from the ill-fated HBO series \"Luck\".  Nick Nolte has the emerging Derby favorite, and loses his mind when an exercise rider whips the horse during a workout.

So the bottom line question is, can anyone else think of other examples of horses who ran huge figs without ever being whipped, and then were suddenly whipped in a later race?  what happened next time?

I\'d like to solve the puzzle.  Who is Saddam Hussein?  couldn\'t resist.

Haskin is completely incorrect which is not the norm for him. AP got whipped a lot in the Del Mar futurity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeSXlUkoTFQ and the Frontrunner. He didn\'t get whipped in his first two starts this year because they were just such big margins. It was excessive but to your point he had been whipped  very hard prior as a two year old and it did not negatively effect him the next time he ran. IMO it means nothing.
