Will these races affect the top 20?  Covello still top 20...you going?

Last Derby trial winner I remember, Don\'t Get Mad, no lasix that ran in the Derby.  Am I correct?

Surely a LExington Winner would consider?  Maybe Pletcher has one more in his barn that can do it....the big days he seems to be part of the sequence....nearly 1-2 at Blue Grass but hot Kee spring trainer (2011) and this year McPeek took him down...sort of...but he took the Ark Derby.

Wow, Pletcher is just a really, really good trainer.  I dislike what he has done to racing.  Where are all of his Derby starters a year later.....retired to stud.  It\'s a joke what he does to racing....the exact words of my closest racing friend.

On another note, Taptowne\'s owners are Fairmount guys, homebred...they\'ve had several offers including a Dutrow owner his spring 3yo year....sticking with him through 3 trainers and wow, what a huge race today.....they told me he was sitting on a big one and I just didn\'t believe them after all the times they said he was sitting on a big one.  Congrats to them.  Not to TAP.

A win is only worth 20 points, so the winner would need to already have at least 10 and more earnings that Falling Sky in order to bump him out of 20th place.  Even if that were to happen, history tells us that at least one in the top 20 will come up with some sort of training (or last race recently discovered) injury before the race, so I think Falling Sky should be in if they want to go either way.

Casse was quoted on Keeneland website yesterday stating Uncaptured would return to Toronto and not return for the Derby.

Lost Cause

Hey Cov,
Sky ran a gutty race..Is there a huge cost to enter the Derby? You have to be looking at the preakness if you don\'t go to the derby..He will probably have the lead at the top of the stretch of either race...

I agree, I thought Falling Sky looked good - hope they get to go to Derby if they wish, I think the horse rates.  Good luck, Cov.

Derby fever painting a different picture today from Casse?

"The only thing that was hurt was their pride -- and ours," Casse said with a chuckle. "Dynamic Sky will go to Woodbine, but I am not sure about Uncaptured. I thought Uncaptured had the perfect trip and Miguel (Mena) had him right where he needed to be.

"But Uncaptured ran so well in his first start back (a runner-up finish in the Grade 3 Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati Racing Spiral Stakes on March 23 at Turfway Park) that I was concerned he might regress a little bit. That might have been part of it." ...

Guys,

Thanks so much for all of the great thoughts.

It was certainly an exciting stretch run yesterday.

I sure wish that we didn\'t have to give up the 4 pds to the 2nd and 3rd place finishers.

I also think we over thought things just a bit as the rail seemed dead earlier in the card so we told Martin to stay in the 3 path but then the rail seemed to wake up later in the card so we wound up giving up alot weight and alot of ground.

The final time was obviously slow but Overanalyze and Falling Sky both carried 5 pds more than Cyber Secret and gave up considerable ground compared to Cyber Secret who rode the rail so if Cyber Secret paired his 0 with the ground loss and the weight, it would seem like Overanalyze ran a good figure and that Falling Sky might have paired again but I will leave that to the pros to calculate.

So far, the horse has come of the race well, he\'s on the van back to Churchill now.

I have partners on the horse so we will have to reach a consensus and we haven\'t discussed it yet but I certainly want to go to the Derby.

Thanks again to everyone for the awesome thoughts

Awesome day yesterday and an awesome game!

For those of you on Twitter, I recommend sending @OaklawnRacing a tweet and let them know they need to fix the weights thing.  Really makes no sense whatsoever.

He had absolutely NO pressure on the winning putt. If he had putted first he would have lost.  His history is shaky putting.  Kudos to Cabrera for one of the greatest shots ever on 18.

Are you suggesting that if he had putted first, he would have three putted the hole, or for some reason, Cabrera then would have sunk the putt, because I\'m not sure how else he would have lost on that hole? On your premise that his history would dictate the outcome, that virtually insures there would be pressure on that putt, because if he didn\'t make it, they would go on to the next hole and face the possibility of another collapse.  If you want to say there was less pressure, fine.  But, it\'s a sudden death play-off in the most prestigious golf tournament in the world, and he was up against both a tough-as-nails competitor and his own history.  As Feherty might say, there was a shite-load of pressure on every shot.

Edgorman

I retract and clarify. Had he putted first I think he would have felt way more pressure. I did not mean to say he would have been vanquished. But surely the epic match might have continued. I merely thought that his winning putt was less stressful than most of his earlier missed short putts. He was in the garden spot and did not feel the vise like claws of defeat at that moment.

If Tiger doesn\'t doink that one off the flagstick on 15 on Friday and end up with a snowman after the improper drop penalty, he likely taps in for bird.  A four shot swing that would have had him tied for the lead starting Sunday instead of chasing from behind.

Not a bad beat at all.

Karma for a guy that deserves all the bad luck he gets.

Edgorman

Agree. Plus he took an unfair advantage on the drop. A good guy would have DQd himself.
