As I mentioned, we found 57 people that bought data from us over the last couple of years had qualified for the NHC this weekend. 43 have contacted us to make sure they have data in Vegas-- a record number of Thoro-Graph qualifiers.

Guys using our data have won the contest four times in the last ten years, including Beychok last year. (By the way, where do I find the speech he made)?

Go get\'em, you 43.

I\'m hoping to make it 44.

I must be nuckin futz, but I\'m going to take a swing at the
Last Chance qualifier on Thursday.

The tracks they are using are Big A, Laurel, Gulfstream, and
Tampa. Prizes are five seats to the big show and some
relatively trivial cash.

I\'ll be channeling some famous #44\'s tomorrow (Aaron, McCovey,
and yes, Reggie), swinging for the fences. Ain\'t gonna see
no clever POS 3-1 shots on my sheet, no sir.

The bad news is we\'re up to 44 already. Somebody must have worn 45...

And you left out God (Jerry West).

Jordan wore 45 for a while.

Now pitching for your New York Mets, number 45, Tug McGraw.

When asked by a reporter whether he preferred pitching on natural grass or
Astroturf, Tug replied \"I don\'t know. I never smoked Astroturf\"

God was rather mortal on May 8, 1970, when Walt Clyde Frazier dropped 36 points on
the Lakers and \"held\" Jerry West to 28 in one of the great clutch performances in
NY sports history.

I was at mid-court for that game (Willis Reed etc.), all my friends were Knick fans, it was one of the worst experiences of my young life.

Loved \"the Tugger\", Richie (a nickname bestowed by his mother during his, ahem, early days).

Do all you schoolboys recall that he got the WS victory his \"you gotta believe\" Mets were denied in 1973, when he saved the 1980 title for the Phillies?

Re \"God\", there was a great bit in \"The Open Man\" (Dave Debuschere\'s book about the 1970 championship season). DD was standing right near Jerry West when he launched the 63-foot shot that tied game 5 at the buzzer. As he described it, he watched West line up the fling with his usual perfect form and, as it arced towards the net, he said to himself, \"Oh my god, he is shooting that ball!!\"

TGJB

My recollection is Debuschere (sp?) was standing under the basket when West\'s shot went through, staggered and came close to fainting. My guess is you can find it on Youtube.

You are correct. I misstated his location, but he was watching West as he backpedaled down the court, and the \"quote\" from the book is pretty close.

Dick Powell

West\'s shot should never have counted since Wilt did not get both feet off the court before he inbounded the ball.

Jerry, you probably know this by now but Boychok\'s speech is on the DRF website. Of course, Crist ruined his punch line before he gave his talk. Didn\'t hear any thank you to TG.
