Some gossip going around the CD strip this am as a source close to Leparoux said that Union Rags made a small noise in his gallop and a tongue tie was added. Not the best time for a breathing issue

It\'s very, very humid here.  Doesn\'t surprise.

But when they tried the tie yesterday, he hated it, that doesn\'t sound good

The tongue tie was taken off for his latest gallop and  he went well, according to Mike Welsch

I gotta tell you, given recent events with my competition, the title of this string had me extremely interested...

This from Wikipedia on tongue ties and breathing:

\"Research has shown that the tongue-tie does not restrict the animal\'s breathing. However, research has also shown that the tongue-tie does not provide a respiratory benefit in healthy animals (as some trainers believe it prevents the horse\'s tongue from coming up, and therefore allows for free air intake).

Matz claimed it was a control issue, which is still interesting, but not a breathing thing.

Actually, that\'s what I thought the thread would be about ...

Tongue ties are used to keep a horses tongue from getting up over the bit, where it (the horse) then becomes uncontrollable.

Some trainers used to think a tongue tie held the tongue forward, preventing dorsal displacement of the soft palate, or epiglottic entrapment, but no, doesn\'t really help.

No matter how you interpet the subject line...Rags STILL breathing.

Did you notice how their Derby Sheets ordering page worked better back when the Communists were in power? There\'s a lesson there.

NYGus

Sure looks like he\'s wearing a tongue tie in this picture during the Champagne.  Didn\'t seem to hurt him too much.
