Colt,

Makes sense that changes need to be made to protect players.NYRA/NYSRWB are responsible to protect players. The idea that players have to worry about possible weather issues, idiotic! Clueless clowns have Doppler radar and weather  report info at their incompetent fingertips.

NYRA took 26% of the players money today, a pure stick up,and if they had a clue, they don\'t, they would seed the pool tomorrow with extra money in an exercise of good faith towards those who got robbed.

Smug NYRA management/shills needs to go, they don\'t have a f--king clue!

In complete agreement with you here. Anyone betting that kind of money on a pick 6 at this meet when 5 are scheduled on grass without being privy to last minute weather conditions is an idiot !

I take a lot of ribbing here about my weather reports. With the number of turf races carded here its paramount to your betting strategy.

Double shame on anyone betting serious money into the six without knowing the racing and wagering boards rule. I too believe the rule is ludicrous but it is clearly stated.

I don\'t want to tell you how much money I spent on my phone bill in another life when I was involved in football wagering before the Internet. A dozen or more calls to the National Weather service in cities of interest before such information was readily available !

Good luck,

Miff,

You\'ve lost your mind, your ability to reason.

Horse players *absolutely* must worry about possible weather issues, up to and including not playing at all! Fer chris\'sakes, whose money are you playing with?

You want the government to protect us from making a bad bet? That\'s a rather stunning insight into your manner of thinking, and if you think it\'s just NYRA that is \"clueless\", buddy, all I can say is, you two deserve each other.

\"Stop me before I make another bad wager!!\"  LOL!!

miff

Rick B,

The whole point here is that NYRA did nothing to protect the players. They scratched the MTO\'s early, signifying their disregard for impending bad weather. Some people may have bet early in the day, went to work/meeting or wherever, with out playing weather man!

One has to believe that the clueless clowns at NYRA had to discuss what to do with the impending weather at about 2:00 pm with a current weather forecast in hand.Well all they did, was take their 26% chop and leave the pick 6 players \"for dead\"

What players should or should not do re weather is irrelevant, what NYRA should do is all that is relevant.Chill out Rick, it\'s over your head, as usual.

Mike,

NYRA or any other racing jurisdiction has never done a thing to protect a single player. As horse bettors were the most disrespected plungers in the world and that\'s a fact. We tolerate drugs, stiff jobs, boat races, ridiculous take outs, cloak and dagger information, inconsistent stewards rulings, among a plethora of other assorted handicaps.

Were all big boy\'s, we bitch, complain, I\'ve even attempted a semi boycott of wagering on the garbage NYRA continues to put out on a daily basis !
The bottom line is we all know this going in, no surprises, the odds are severely stacked against us.

What we wager is the one thing under our total control. The racing & wagering boards policy is clearly stated about the pick 6 or any other multi race bet.

I whole heartily agree their policy sucks and todays action was borderline criminal. Did you or do you really expect anything lees from the band of clueless clowns ? This is far from the first time the same scenario has happened ?

Good luck,

Frank D.

miff

Frank D,

I agree with your assesssment.Albany politicians like Sabini, Bonaci,Lanza and others carefully monitoring the ongoings at NYRA.Something like this just highlights the fact that Charlie Hayward and co simply do not have the business accumen to run a multi billion dolllar business.

Would love to hear what discussions of a possible pick 6 cluster f went on at NYRA today, if any.

Good luck

Mike,

You and I both know the sad part. There was little if any discussion as to the ramifications of their clientele ! They could have a map drawn for them and still would not have a clue.

No one gets it ! The whole game is fueled by the money from idiots like you and I put into it. Their problem is the older idiots are dying off, leaving the game in droves and there are no other new idiots to replace them.

The whole Saratoga meet has become an illusion that the NYRA propaganda machine continues to exploit. Do you really think that a park full of picnicking tourists with coolers and spinners going through the gate 5 times to get tee shirts are going to save this game ?

No, it\'s not over my head -- you just have a hard-on for anything NYRA does that you don\'t like.

Besides -- YOU are the one that doesn\'t get it: I said the NYRA P6 rule is goofy, so on that point, I agree with you.

What you are missing -- or are too stubborn to accept -- is that the PLAYER is ultimately responsible for his own wagering. Your friend that put in the $5500 ticket deserves no protection if he won\'t at least pause long enough to look at a weather forecast before running to the windows.

\"Over my head\", you say? I still have the same bankroll I started the day with -- because I did my due diligence, weather-wise, and chose not to play. Didnt need the nanny-state of NYRA to \"protect me\".

Mike-- are any Albany politicians not Italian?

JB,

Actually, it is said that the most powerful NY poltician(aside from Italian Cuomo)is none other than quiet Sheldon Silver from your neck of the woods.

Not for anything Rick and Frank, but I can\'t believe that two horseplayers are taking a position that it is OK to steal money from horseplayers.  Whether or not those horseplayers made a mistake today is irrelevant.  Congrats to you Rick that you were aware of the rule and skipped the pick-6.  So those that weren\'t deserve to get robbed.  That is a dumb statement, pure and simple.

I might be stupid if I walk around New York city with 10k in cash in my pocket, but that doesn\'t mean it is OK when I get mugged and lose it and the guy who stole it is justified.

The last thing this game needs is rules that literally steal from the player.

The second to last thing this game needs is players who should know better, thinking it is Ok that players get their money stolen by the people who run the game.

Then I sit amazed when I $600 into a pick-3 at Saratoga, the best meet in the country, and I am with another guy who put $500 into it, and then we realize we are 2.5% of the pool and keying an 11-1 shot, which means there isn\'t enough money in the pool to get paid right, if/when we hit.  And that is the biggest meet of the year and some of the pools are shallow.

They have scared the players away from this game and that isn\'t good for any of us.

toppled

The pick 4 bettors got screwed pretty good too.  It became 1-ALL-ALL-ALL and paid $10.80.  While nobody might have put in $5,500, I\'m sure some people who keyed on a horse in one of the later races and spread around on the 1st leg took a beating.
I came close to doing that and backed off only because I had the P3 going into the 6th (which unfortunately I didn\'t hit with any of the 3 long-shots I had going) and I felt if I won, I\'d win enough & I didn\'t want to take a double beating if I lost.
When they let the 1st race stay on the turf after it started raining, I thought they can\'t be this stupid to start the P4 on grass & not follow through, but I was wrong.

That would be a rather harsh statement, if I made it. I didn\'t.

I said the NYRA P6 rule is goofy...but that it might be invoked was only ONE factor in my passing the P6.

And as far as any players getting robbed, what REALLY killed the payoffs was converting three legs of the P6 to \"all\" races...not the carryover.

The payoff was what, $70 yesterday? So that means it would have been $280 instead if they paid it all out with no carryover.

You guys that are doing all the bitching -- come back and tell me you would have been happy with a $280 payout. I doubt it.

Yes. Thank heavens the monument to integrity and competence known as the NY State Senate is \"carefully monitoring\" things, looking hither and yon, standing tall for truth, justice and the American way as they bravely try to protect us horsie-players from the predations of NYRA. They\'re looking out for us, folk; only a cynic would believe that, say, John \"let\'s have a constitutional amendment to legalize casinos everywhere!!\" Bonacic has any ulterior motives in making noises about stripping NYRA of the franchise. No, they have our back, and I\'m expecting Bonacic to lead the charge for lower takeout rates...um....any day now...

miff

Papa,

No question they have ulterior motives to bring in more money for their favorite causes. You may be surprised to learn that things like lower takeout IS on the table along with other player friendly things, call it a trade off.

Of course, the politicians just want the money but they are at least listening to others outside the usual upstate racing insiders and NYRA\'s and that may turn out better than what players have now.
