Anybody have any stats on the percentage of racing days at Saratoga which are run on sloppy or muddy tracks? 25%? 50%?

Sorry MO , I don\'t have the percentage but this year actually seems very good compared to every other year I can remember.

OK, I\'ll play along...

If you really want to determine to what degree Saratoga racing can be
undermined by the heavy thunderstorm activity in the Adirondacks, I think the
better inquiry may be how many days the races (or what percentage of the races)
are taken off turf.

On many (not all) of those off turf days, the track maintenance people are
able to produce fast or wet fast conditions on the main.

Saratoga seems to card somewhere between 40-45% turf races. A decent sized
field of quality dirt runners (like the Whitney) is now the rarity/novelty.

Message to NYRA (sorry you\'re hearing this again Frank). Draw the MTO\'s into
the body of the race, like Monmouth and Gulfstream and others. Why should the
MTO\'s always be posted outside? Whats wrong with a short odds MTO drawing the
one box and having to fight a dead rail?

Bee,

Simple, smug NYRA does not listen to \"outsider\" suggestions. They have control of day to day racing and only NYRA shills get their opinions heard, their blather ubiqutous.

Possible good news, two powerful State Senators at the forefront of the NY racing committee\'s, seeking legal opinion on pulling the franchise on NYRA and looking for major restructure bringing in a much higher level of business expertise at senior management level.Incidentally, since the NYC OTB debacle, Albany politicians are listening much more OUTSIDE the purview of those who have failed NY racing miserably,i.e NYRA, it\'s same clueless politically appointed or insider stooge board members and the Albany crowd that had control of racing.

If the two senators can get Gov Cuomo, his powerful racing czar, Lehmann Bennett,(sp) and Sheldon Silver  on board, there could be major restructuring of NY racing and casino gambling. A good bet in the near future that goes way beyond Aqueduct slots to full blown casinos.

At least there are far more serious discussions taking place about racing than  Lasix, which is heading the wrong way and will probably hurt US racing. How about \"stepping out\" on a horse who trails, bleeding from the nose/mouth, should be a big help to the gamblers and the image of racing.

Through yesterday there were 104 turf races carded and 12 were lost. All 5 are off today so 92 of a scheduled 109 have run = 84 %

I had to edit the initial numbers, these are correct. NYRA usually posts the updates on Tuesdays with their usual propaganda about everything being wonderful !!!

Frank D,

Right on the money. Andy Serling, top NYRA shill, who ranted negative on NYRA for years prior to getting a cushy job/paycheck will tell you that NYRA can do no wrong, the turf needs rain, blah, blah, blah. NYRA is WONDERFUL!!

JB,

At least wait till it stops raining. Got a rowboat?, could use one in Staten Island!

84% on the turf is pretty damn wonderful.  I would bet that this is an above average year in terms of staying on the turf.  I can recall years where it rained every day for a week and a half, sometimes more.  Though it looks like the rain was all saved up for one day!  HP

FrankD.

HP,

It\'s a higher than usual % for sure but we still have 18 days to go ?
Especially since the Campo years as racing secretary have been overrun with the turf sprints.

Believe it or not there have actually been more turf races written than dirt races so far. Through today there will be 123 races on the main track and 17 of those were scheduled for the turf so 106 on dirt as compared to 109 that were supposed to be on the green.

It\'s definitely not my Grandfather\'s Saratoga !!!

I noticed last week there were a few days where the fields were a little light but overall I think this year has been great.

Did you see Joe Drape in the Times today?  Article on \"Jockey Club Plans TV and Web Projects?\"  Some of that could be good too!  HP

HP--
It looked good on paper, but I read a DRF article which stated that the TV project
could be anything from a \"weekly wrap up show\" to a \"reality style TV show\",
which has the potential to do the same thing for Racing that \"Jersey Shore\" did
for Italian Americans.

I explained the simplicity of reality TV to my wife this past week: It involves
rounding up a group of women who women love to hate and men would love to ....

Speaking of TV what happened to the HBO/ Dustin Hoffman racetrack themed project?

I saw that January 2012 is petty definite.
