It is too bad John Veitch is getting all the heat for the Life at Ten mess caused by Pletcher and Velasquez who should have taken the horse out of the race for just cause.  Veitch was a great trainer of Davona Dale, Proud Truth, Alydar, and Our Mims winning multiple Grade 1\'s.  He has also been a good steward in his second life and it is too bad this could put a black mark on his Hall of Fame career.

Lost Cause

I think the post was about the article on page 2..Although I agree with your life at ten assessment and Johnny V....the jock

Yeah, well, Veitch also tried to pick up my girlfriend one night at Siro\'s with me standing 3 feet away. I told her to go ahead and dance with him because I was busy trying to pump information out of Bob Beanish.

And I\'m holding those wide trips with Alydar against him too.

Wait a minute...sorry about the girlfriend...but now you\'ve got to explain what kind of trip you would have told a jockey to make to beat Affirmed, especially considering the two horses\' styles.

miff

Like many Kool Aid drinkers, lost tons thinking Alydar was faster than Affirmed off the sheets. Now believe Alydar could have run along the infield and still not run past the pit bull Affirmed.

Watch the first turn of the A/A Belmont. Ground loss on some of the 6 turns of the TC was necessary, some not.

I said TRIED to pick up my girlfriend. Nothing to be sorry about.

I shouldn\'t have doubted a dapper guy would prevail over some bald creeper...but I don\'t think Alydar would have prevailed with better rides...I always thought Affirmed had lots of help...kind of like Seabiscuit versus War Admiral.  A little bit of speed and a lot of help can go a long way.

Supposedly Veitch was (is?) quite the ladies man, and I haven\'t got much on him in the hair department. He was pretty slick.

Get ready for incoming about \"help\".

Much can and has been written about Mr. Smith.

Affirmed had that classic re-break when challenged look so common among those trained by the great horsemen such as the Barreras, Mullins, Parisella, Ferriola, and whomever other master trainers you may choose to add to this list.

Good Luck,
Joe B.

Amen...add the late Bobby Frankel late in his career.
