Does anyone know if Dubai horses will get Lasix?

This could be a key but overlooked issue as it often is for the Euros in the Breeders Cup.

Remember Diabolical in the turf sprint last year.  Had some big US figs with Lasix, went to Dubai and never matched the figs and then came back with Laisx for the sprint and ran a big one.

I think it\'s reasonable to expect or at least contemplate some figure improvement for Desert Party and Regal Ransom with Lasix (if they will get it).

Anyone know for sure the deal here?

I was wondering when someone was going to get around to this.

Why not? they raced on it before they went to Dubai.

makes sense to me that they would but I know for whatever reason, they don\'t always all get it at the BC.  Of course, based on this year\'s fiasco at the BC, we don\'t really know for sure who was getting it and who wasn\'t.

I will assume they are both getting it and look to confirm in the days leading up.

Is Desert Party\'s last considered a one-turn or two-turn race?  I assume the first two in 2009 were definitely one-turn races

I would also like to know the answer to this.  I also want to get some opinions.  I am considering tossing both the Dubai horses.  I have read that RR was helped by a real speed bias in the last race.  Also is the distance here actually a mile and an eighth?  I thought it was like 1800 meters or something.  And DP didnt look like he wanted more distance.  Can anyone shed more light on the tracks over there?  If this race was 1800 meters than are the other fractional times accurate?  Overall times seem slow.

Pizzalove,

I was out in that area of the world for a couple years and have been to the track.  Can\'t answer the 1800 meters vs 1 1/8th, but I can tell you that there have been a number of horses run there that were not true 1 1/4 horses that were able to get the distance there.  Captain Steve for example, for whom I was there for.  And I distinctly remember Baffert and another trainer talk about 1 1/4 over there is nothing like a true 1 1/4 race.  Baffert felt Captain Steve was at his beat at 1 1/8th but felt he could get the distance there.  (and he did).

As for Dubai World Cup day this year, the charts show that the horses that went to the lead stayed there in the dirt races.  Check out both the 1 1/4 race and the 1 1/8 race.  Both \"boat races\', as they say.  Yup, inside speed was gold.

Jimbo,

does the speed favoring nature of the track on UAE Derby day flatter Desert Party?

jimbo66

Yes Covelj,I believe it does.

Which makes it hard for me to like either horse.

Without the \"speed favoring\" nature of track that day, I would be talking about how Regal Ransom got back to his 2 year old top and could be poised for a forward move.  But I am discounting the \"2\" a bit.

Desert Party never did better than 10 as a 2 year old, so he doesn\'t have the foundation and now he ran a \"1\", which is 9 points of development.  Not sure I will get the odds I would need to bet that this guy has a 2 or 3 point forward move in him (and gets a good trip).

I guess I could use either one on a \"hedge\" on a broad pick-4 ticket (because I have overlaid odds on IWR and QR).  And I guess I could use them underneath on a superfecta ticket, but I would not be keying either one, that is for sure.

It looks as though everything a mile (1600m from the chute) and under would be 1-turn, while the \"mile & 1/8\" (1800m) would be 2. If that diagram really approximates the shape of the first turn there I could understand why the routes might be speed-favoring. Gotta go look at the video of that UAE Derby.

This would mean that DP has had one 2-turn race while RR would have two (including that adventure in Sept @ SA).

mkram

Thanks for the info.  That is one funky first turn.

Tough to like Desert Party given those slow 2YO figs and just one funky two-turn race.  But he has won 4 of 6 and has a solid number going in.  With the addition of Lasix, may have to use underneath.

Halo Fire

Interesting that Frankie Dettori declined the trip. Wonder why? He probably would\'ve had his choice between the two.

Friedman thinks the Dubai horses would have to improve 15 lengths to win at Churchill. Huge disparity
I\'m curious why I Want Revenge has been breezing in front wraps. He\'s never worn them in a race and he wasn\'t training with them at SA. I know Smarty Jones, Street Sense, and Big Brown all won wearing front wraps. Just curious.

JB commented on the huge differences in the the figs (TG/RAGS) with certain DERBY horses. The two Dubai horses are painfully slow on Rags so I can see why Len Friedman would say that.

I know that they didn\'t beat much of anything in the UAE Derby but they were 15 lengths clear of the field. Does he really think that IWR and QR would have finished 30 lengths clear over 1 1/8?
