Hey Folks,

Jerry let us put this post up here, and I believe he plans to offer out something for these races perhaps, so I hope no one minds............

This week at HANA Mike Mayo and Ross Gallo have chosen Tampa Bay Downs; the pick three starting in race 6 as our play. (for a background on the pool day click here: http://blog.horseplayersassociation.org/2009/03/guest-post-united-we-stand.html )

We are trying to play one race, or sequence a week to try and get some player demands noticed. Last week worked well, and we hope that this week does too. If you\'d like to play with us, please do, we need all the help we can get.

PP\'s and various handicapping tools will be on the blog here tomorrow or Monday, as well as further info. We have had great support from fig makers and so on.

Thanks Mr. B for letting us place this up here, and thanks folks for reading.

When Paul comes in Monday we\'ll put up the HANA races, if they\'re not up by 2:00 remind me.

I would recommend that all read the link included in Dean\'s post. The notion of
a \"Buycott\" (directing wagers to a selected track or tracks) is a feasible way
in which horseplayers can get the attention of the decision makers.

Unfortunately, given the nature of the horseplaying beast, an absolute \"Boycott\"
of Racing for an entire day is not feasible and innocent vendors such as
Thorograph would be negatively impacted.

I disagree with one statement in the HANA article regarding helping smaller
tracks survive. The only way to restore the quality of Racing, and to eliminate
poorly bred and unsound runners, is to eliminate the safety net which \"leaky
roof\" facilities provide for an inefficient breeding industry.

Tampa Bay Downs is the beneficiary of the next HANA Buycott. Tampa would
actually have an essential role in Richiebee\'s model of contracted racing,
serving as a \"B Tier\" facility supporting a 9 month (no summer racing in
Florida) Florida circuit.

TGJB

Richie-- when and if there is a boycott, it will take an entirely different form-- a highly publicized effort led by a high profile data producer (ahem) who will announce he is going to stop selling data for ONE track (and saying why, which puts the track in the position of defending drugs if they hold out), and will ask big bettors to boycott that one track, while continuing to bet all the others. I would be very surprised if I can\'t pull that off, and beat the ---- out of that track. After that it will be downhill.

Right now I\'m waiting to see how some specific initiatives work out-- the new CD stuff (let\'s see how certain trainers do in May), and something I\'m working on with Magna (which unfortunately is up to their eyes in alligators, otherwise this would have got done already). Also had an interesting dinner with the BC people the other night.

So we\'ll see. Right now I\'m keeping my powder dry.

Thanks to both for the reply, and thanks TGJB for the offer. I will let everyone know when they are up as I am sure they will be interested in trying TG.

We have free PP\'s and things up on the blog if anyone wants to scope the pick 3.

Thanks again,

Dean

JB:

This is all very exciting, giving me flashbacks to the early 70s, marching on
Washington and all kinds of burning-- draft cards, bras and ROTC buildings.

I would only hope JB that if you are going to become increasingly politicized,
that you would not focus only on the medication/performance enhancing drug
issues. There are so many other problems with Racing, which  have been
documented excessively, which need to be addressed.

Horseplayers are the end user here. We can make a difference, even more so in
a \"competitive\" economic environment, and make things better for ourselves and
the breed of horses which provides us with so much enjoyment.

TGJB

Richie-- I\'m trying to keep my efforts focused, and on something achievable. It may be that more comes out of this later, but this is tough enough, thank you.

Meanwhile, flashbacks-- back when I was in grade school there was this girl who sat next to me from second grade through ninth (we both skipped twice). She had a typical Village background-- Jewish, both parents doctors, nicest kid you ever met. (Also the first girl I ever saw without clothes on, fourth grade, but that\'s another story).

Anyway, back in those days, of the three special high schools you could get into in the city (meaning you had to pass an entry test to avoid having to go to a school where you would get the crap beat out of you every day, like most of my friends did, and it would have been a whole lot worse for me at two years younger), Stuyvesant and (Brooklyn) Tech were all boys, leaving only Bronx Science for this girl to go to.

So I went to Stuyvesant, and she went to Science, and I never saw her again. I did hear she went to Columbia while I was busy flunking out of CCNY (quickly, and I do mean quickly, turns out they wanted you to study). I heard she got involved with Mark Rudd and SDS when they took over the campus, all that stuff.

Cut to years later. Out of nowhere, I see her name and photo in the paper-- it was her car they used in the Nyack shootout, she was the one who stood up in court and said you have no right to try us, etc. She ended up doing federal time (I heard some of it in leg irons), and when she came out, became Ron Kuby\'s expert in prison affairs (tough to get a law license when you\'re a felon).

Post script-- I ended up at a party some years ago for the publication of a book about that period, and somebody said, that guy over there is Mark Rudd. So I go over and tell him who I am and ask him about this girl, does he stay in touch, how is she. I never saw a guy clam up so fast-- presumably thought I was undercover.

Oh boy, thanks a ton guys. This is great stuff for players! Can\'t thank you enough!

Lost Cause

Anybody have insights into this P3..I\'m only finding the chalks..

Rick B.

The turf race seems pretty wide open to me. Chalks (#2 and #3) aren\'t that scary. These are the prices, IMO:

#1 Vivi\'s Book, slight move fwd last, lightly raced, might be ready to put it all together.

#8 Dovita, homebred who is also lightly raced attended quick pace in first out vs. winners last and improved off of maiden win. Was right there for 6 furlongs last and extremely dangerous if left alone today.

#10 Shegoestoeleven, has gone to 10 and change in the past, good enough to win on best effort. \"Long\" half of uncoupled entry for O\'Connell.

#11 Nick\'s Girl, huge shot if in off AE list with best back numbers and solid looking sheet. Lifetime record says \"hanger\", though. Let\'s hope she\'s out, but if she\'s in, have to have her on at least a backup ticket.

Any changes posted in these Tampa races (are they off the turf, I saw the baseball game was postponed due to rain in Tampa yesterday)?

I can\'t access anything here.

So with the early scratches in, I have:

Could be a chalker P3, but remember, this isn\'t about \"us\".

Be one with the cause today for $45...play just the two faves in the middle leg and it\'s only $18.
