Would Dutrow get killed in the press if he decided(for BB\'s benefit) to NOT run him in the Belmont. Assuming that he wins this weekend while regressing, would it be that hard to keep him out of the Belmont? Keeping him sound and ready for the summer/fall could be the right thing to do. Yes, I have been itching for a Triple Crown for many years as much as the next person, but it just seems that we are always setting ourselves up for another letdown year after year.

It would be ok if they had any intention of running him after the Belmont in the first place but I believe that the Belmont is his last race either way due to the Stallion deal that\'s on the table.

If BB wins the Belmont he can retire as an undefeated Triple Crown winner--its
hard to imagine anything he does after that can enhance his value.

The fact that 08 BC Classic is scheduled to be run on synthetic also makes it
less likely he would stay in training for the BC IMO.

Well, maybe one thing Richie. If BB wins the TC and he is purchased by the Maktoums, they should run him in the Arc against Curlin. No other race really makes sense with the BC at SA, and Curlin\'s people are already thinking Arc. Now THAT would be a horse race!

Aren\'t the owners trying to get all kinds of notoriety for their future investment portfolio in horse racing (I\'m sure I read that somewhere)...What better way to get publicity than winning the Triple Crown for the first time in 30 years..No way they don\'t run Big Brown in the Belmont after they win the Preakness..If we get letdown then so be it; It just meant he was not tough enough but you gotta go try for it...

MonmouthGuy

For me, if he was going to skip one TC race, it should have been the Preakness, which would have given him 5 weeks rest into what is going to be a pretty decent Belmont field.  If Dutrow is running him in the Preakness, he will run in the Belmont if he wins.

Magic:

Maybe some people in the American racing industry would WAKE UP! if 2 of the
best American racers in years ended up meeting each other in Europe.

MonmouthGuy

You do not think that the Monba-Student Council stretch duel in the Breeders Cup Synth Classic will signal the rebirth of American racing?

This is hysterical

I do like the idea about running both horses in the Arc though.  Big Brown, on the bottom side, is bred even better for turf than he is for dirt as scary as that might be.

marcus

imo the word has been unclear all along if bb runs next on two weeks  and  wouldn\'t be surprised if he doesn\'t  - based what\'s been out there to read in the press and a \"gut\" feeling   ...

And dollar for dollar it might be cheaper to fly to framce to see the arc then what it now costs to go the BC.

Uncle Buck

That\'s exactly right Covel. Brownie is bred for turf, romped on turf at 2, and would probably relish the Arcadia plastic. That said - I would think the Euros stand a damn good chance to finally break through in the Classic this year with it being run over plastic. Anyone know the limit on BC Classic starters? I would not be surprised to see a full 14 or 15 horse field with some Euro turf specialists.

As for the Belmont, no way do these guys pass the race at their home track with a chance to make history. Way too much ego involved in the IEAH camp

Does anyone here have a comment on the way Dutrow is prepping the horse for Saturday?  Jogs and light gallops?

There\'s some logic to it, given BB\'s history, but it\'s a counterintuitive approach to say the least.  There\'s the potential for a very fresh, very rank horse coming out of the gate.

TGJB

1-- I\'m not sure he has any choice with the quick turnaround.

2-- It makes it possible that if something is wrong Dutrow won\'t know it, because there is no chance for the horse to show it.
