Lost Cause

The Green Monkey is pre-entered to run on Saturday @ Belmont Race 4 @ 6 Furlongs.  Just in case anyone is interested in watching the most expensive horse ever...

fkach

Does anyone know if he\'s had any workouts in company with horses that have already run?

hooper

I know he worked with Unbridled Belle at Belmont. Maybe Barry could give some insight.

It looks like they worked on the same day twice.

8/18 GM 59.4HG on TR.T
8/18 UB 101B on TR.T

8/12 both worked in 100.3B

The 8/12 work is probably the one in company. I haven\'t seen any clocker comments etc... to see if either broke on top and who looked like they were getting the best of it. I consider that a pretty decent work for a horse facing maidens.

It will be fun to watch.  Obviously he was very hyped at one point and some people are going to bet him off that. Others are going to try to beat him for the very same reason. ;-)

Nagging small problems have kept him from the races. He worked something like 9.80 for an eighth at the sale last year which is one reason why he sold for so much money. His breeding is not $16 million like.

Saw him once with Angel up,muscular barrel chested horse, curious to see him run.

Wrongly

The Green Monkey shows a work of worked :59 4/5 from the gate. On the same morning, a Pletcher trained two year old named Cowboy Cal worked :59 flat from the gate.  Tabor is here for the sales at Keeneland, not to watch the Green Joke.

He might turn out to be a runner after all, but something I\'ve noticed with these over-priced horses is that a lot of bettors are almost as gullible as the people that bought him. Even when when they run poorly they continue to be over-bet for several races, meaning value on their less hyped rivals with ability.

fcach, just checked my notes and it was the 8/12 work at Bel. she galloped out strongly but he was being pulled up after the work. my dad was at oklahoma quite a few days this aug and reports that Pletch told him once the monk is very fast. fwiw

Horses don\'t \"pre-enter\" for MSW races. Pletcher entered The Green Monkey.

Team Coolmore was in the U.S. for the sales, but they\'re not sticking around Central Kentucky for book 3. Magnier, Tabor, et.al have plenty of lieutenants to worry about that part of the sale (and beyond).

I\'m sure Tabor will be at Belmont Saturday for TGM\'s debut, but only because it coincides with R2R in the Gazelle and The Leopard int he Futurity.

if I could only be as gullible as the guy who bought The Monkey. he stands Giants Causeway at +300k a pop. GC covered 168 mares this year, 178 last year (live foals). not bad, $300,000 x 178, IN JUST ONE YEAR!

Tabor also stood Saddler\'s Wells and Danehill. you know how much he made with those guys?

we are talking hundreds of millions of dollars here in revenues.

Well, the stud fee is for \"outside mares.\" That is, people with shares (or seasons) in Giant\'s Causeway don\'t pay the stud fee because they\'ve already paid for the privilege of breeding by buying into the horse.

So 168x$300k isn\'t exactly right, but even 60 mares would be enough to cover TGM\'s purchase price.
