Does anybody else out there share my opinion that the Del Mar surface is great progress for racing? For years, American racing has been heading down a path of speed speed speed. Is the Del Mar surface actually bringing stamina back into the process? If so, I for one, will be pleased. I would like to see the day come again when mile and quarter Grade 1 races require some staying ability. I enjoy watching those kinds of races, and enjoy handicapping them much more than race after race where some speedball gets out front and just coasts to the wire. Now, if we can also figure out how to get the drugs out of the picture, we will have a great sport again. And to think that it might be happening in California of all places.
