High,

Not surprised by the Beyer and it seems they felt the track was very fast.Beyer thinks that the slow raw derby time of 2.02.13 was about equal to yesterdays  fast 1.53.2 from a performance fig viewpoint.

Given ground for the first two,I\'ll guess neg 2.5 for Curlin and SS near a pair.Much will depend on TG\'s take on the variant which I feel Beyer pretty much nailed.I noticed that the water trucks were out all day and the downpour added more water. Nice race by the top three and CP West outran his previous ability.

Was there a little rain yesterday prior to the Preakness?

I thought I read that somewhere, but I wasn\'t watching the whole show and didn\'t
hear or see anything.

Just did a quick review of the Preakness using one of Sartin \'s old program.....

Running time of Preakness   45.6  109.8 134.6 and 153.4 final time

Curlin       10.5     6.5    1.5      0       Energy 163.88
StreetSense  12.5     6.65   0        .15     Energy 163.83
Hard Spun     4.5     0      1.65     4.15    Energy 163.79

Quick Analysis

In terms of energy...All three are almost the same ability wise..(without considering trip of each horse)

Hard Spun obviously made an early huge premature move into a blistering early pace.....

Streetsense made a huge middle move into the hot pace ( top hidden energy move)

Curlin\'s jockey rode his horse \"ala Eddie Delahoussaye\"timing his ride at the right time.... On a personal note...by stumbling out of the gate, Curlin was in hindsight in a great position away from the hot early pace which actually put Curlin in a position to win the race....

footnote...Before the Preakness..with the abundance of early speed front runners...I came down to Street Sense and Circular Quay....
