Now that we\'re getting into the heavy prep time of the season, would it be possible for TG to put up the last 10 Derby winnners or so?  I\'m curious to see the progression from their 2yo top to their Derby win, and which horses if any regressed and still won, and how many, if any, jumped to a new top to win. I\'ve been an exclusive user of TG going back to Volponi\'s BC, but haven\'t held on to my Derby copies, so if you could post the info it would be appreciated.

All I can tell you there is no one pattern to hang your hat on. You also need to have the pattenrs of the  Key competitors and why they lost like Bellamy Road -5 last year, Bandini -2.5 ( i think) High Limit 0, Greeley\'s Galaxy -2.5  and Affleet alex (Can\'t remember that fig now) all going into the Derby off of lifetime tops. So last year you had a number of horses potentially ready to bounce negatively and a couple of horses that moved up.

My only point here is just don\'t llok at winners because the losers also lost for reason when you begin the process of elimination.

Also one last thing, over the past 3-5 years the number of prep races run by the winner has been greatly reduced. And no horse that has not run as a two year old has won the Derby yet. Most winners did run at least 3 races as a 2yo.

Seems that a once refered to \" Derby Profile \" no longer exsists in any shape or form that it resembled ( in the classical sense ) since the early 1990\'s . I\'m not sure why that is , or , what exactly is a Derby Profile by today\'s standards . I\'m thinking it\'s currently in a transition phase ...

Derby profile...graded stakes winner at two and three starts before the big one.

Around 2 turns at 9 furlon\'s as a 2yo would be nice , though less significant than what you\'ve mentioned , certainly one must keep in mind a horse\'s earnings in Stakes Races when considering Derby Profile . The Derby Profile Question  , for me and probably lots of other folks is in a purely Academic sense , in terms of pattern and numbers ( around futures pool time the question is  not an Academic one ) ,   it wasn\'t all that long ago ( or was it ? ) that a Horse took the Derby w/ a 5   . . .

I try to look at all 2 yo\'s at the end of each year to get a sense of whats out their and do a \" who\'s who \" of numbers and patterns , so it\'s alot of horse\'s but I can\'t give an exact number . As 3 yo Triple Crown campaign\'s advance and progress that number narrows considerably . . .
