I  would like to post an opinion on a group of what I call horsemen vs. trainers. HORSEMEN (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER )  Alan Jurgens,Dickie Small,Tom Voss, Paul Fout (d),Sidney Waters(noy curently training),Shug McGagehy (SP?) Bobby Frankel, Richard Mandella,Jinks Fires,Ron Macnalley, J.Murphy,J.Servis,Graham Motion (as good of a example as there is,tutored by Boze and Bernie Bond)   TRAINERS  Dutrow,Assmusen,Amoss,Norman,Pletcher,D.Capuano,Baffert,Lucas etc, etc. This post meant to create discussion of opinions.

Forgot to add Zito to Trainers list.

Would add Bill Mott to your list of \"Horsemen\".

Hall of Fame trainer, trainer of Champions (Cigar, Theatrical, Heatherten, others).

In the mid 1980s, before he picked up clients such as Allen Paulson, John Franks and the Firestones, Mott was a leading trainer at Churchill Downs/ Fair Grounds/ Arlington year after year. I think a lot of racing fans would be surprised at Mott\'s ability with cheaper claiming horses and how well he played the claiming game before being entrusted with the type of stock he now trains.

Mott\'s father practiced veterinary medicine. Bill Mott started training on his own at the age of 16. He developed into an excellent exercise rider (at one point, Mott and Frankie Brothers were both working for Jack Van Berg as exercise riders). I have always thought that trainers who exercised their own horses had a slight advantage over their earthbound contemporaries.

I look forward to seeing what Mott will do with the 2 current stars of his stable-- Shakespeare and Sweet Symphony. They each have challenging assignments if they are entered in their respective BC races.
