\"He came out of the Belmont in good shape and I could find no reason why he stopped,\" Zito said (Re Pinpoint):

What about distance?

Though there is some nice pedigree in this horse, hes by a Mt. Livermore Stallion, Halo broodmare sire, what made anyone think he was going to love 12 furlongs?

They say he\'s off to the Ohio Derby now. Thats a 9 mark race, he probably has a better shot at that.

i\'m not crazy about peaks and valleys as a distance sire either, but he was a very nice 9f horse. his dam, strike a balance, by green dancer, is one of the best pin oak mares, and they have a lot of good ones. pinpoint\'s dam was by halo, his second dam was by damascus, and his third dam traces back to an excellent english family. yes, pinpoint will run better at 9f, they all will though. 2:28.4 over that surface was not impressive at all (although AA probably could have gone faster). the fact is, pinpoint just isn\'t that good.

Also thought the raw time wasn\'t inspiring, but then saw how they ran the last dirt race and am now leaning towards the notion that whatever they did to the track pre Belmont Stakes did more than take the zip out of it. Alex and Andromeda\'s may have run a bit better than they are getting credit for.

Slew City Slew is getting some late stud career success and had to laugh at this blurb from the following DRF story:

\"In fact, Slew City Slew\'s improvement with age, along with his prestigious sire, drew Jones\'s attention to him as a stallion prospect.

\"Wayne Lukas was training him,\" Jones said, \"and at the time, Wayne was not training that many older horses.\"

But when Slew City Slew won four stakes as a 4-year-old, before scoring twice at the Grade 1 level at 5, \"it caught my attention that not only did Slew City Slew have ability but also a level of soundness,\" Jones said\"

Interpreted that to say \"Lukas\'s horses don\'t train on and when this one was running through his tough training, we knew he was hickory.\"...lol
