Did Machado stop riding a couple of strides before the wire not realizing Prat was coming like a freight train in the 8 or 9 path? tough way to lose a nostril photo

Roman

Sure did, even looked like he gave the horse an \"At A boy\" tap on the shoulder before the wire thinking he was clear. Also looked like he was peaking at the infield monitor seeing if anyone was closing, and Prat did not show up until they decreased the zoom on the pan shot.

Was it with the same trainer that he rode at Keeneland when he got confused about the finish line?

Machado ended up getting suspended and fined for this screw up. They should not suspend or fine him, they should force him to pay out the bets he screwed up.  That might make him ride through the line next time.

Roman

The fines and penalty should absolutely be more severe. The perception alone of not riding thru the wire is enough to suggest more nefarious motives. And you are spot on about the bets, if they had to cover the losses incurred by the bettor & owner of the horse, along with 90-180 days off, this would happen a lot less often.
The punishment does not fit the crime at all.
