Really interested in this one in the Blue Grass, it took him 6 starts to break his maiden but Pletcher thought enough of him to enter him in the Hopeful where he ran 4th and then sent him to Santa Anita for the  G1 American Pharoah where he ran a well beaten third behind Muth.

He finally broke his maiden in his last start but looked impressive doing it and lights out with his 3 workouts since. He is by Curlin out of a Congrats mare so distance shouldn\'t be an issue. Congrats good ones are mostly sprinters but he is by my boy A.P. Indy.

I always check horses running in the preps for a possible future and it is rare that you can find value this late in the game but I got Catching Freedom at 50-1 before the La. Derby and I am jumping on Be You at 150-1 at Circa. He is also 125-1 at WH.

Appreciate any thoughts or opinions.

Encino seems interesting with the Nyquist/Bernardini cross, which have been running lights out lately, and has the A.P. Indy broodmare line, and will get a price in this deep field.

First time Prat.

But Repole/Pletcher have been on a roll the last week and Irad stays on.

Any opinion on Lat Long? McPeek off a bullet work?

Good race A.P.

You Be on to something with Encino. Love the breeding and Prat jumping on. The negatives are of course the post and the fact that he has never raced on dirt but breeding suggests he could be even better on dirt.

He is playable at anything near the 12/1 ML.  GL

Roman

And look at Jody\'s Pride today A.P.
The others might need one and she\'s live at that price,  had the figs,  8-1 with Prat.

In the Derby Futures Pool, Be You is sitting at at 92/1 currently. Odds will change before the pool closes prior to the Wood Saturday.

Have never bet into derby futures pool. Getting fixed odds and hoping he shows up.

His odds of course will plummet in all futures pools if he runs well.

Two great betting races today with the Wood and Blue Grass, good luck to all!

Not sure why, but looks like Encino scratched out of the Blue Grass. I am not sure why, but since he is not entered in another Derby prep today, that pretty much puts him out of the Derby picture. Even if he was OK and could go in the Lexington, he has 20 points already and a win would net him 20 more, 40 points will likely not cut it this year in terms of points.

Encino is entered in the Lexington.  As of now, it looks to me like Grand Mo the First is first alternate with 40 points and would move into the Derby if Deterministic opts out after his bad performance in the Wood.  Encino would tie Grand Mo on points and move ahead of him on non-restricted stakes earnings if he wins the Lexington.  No idea if that is what Cox has in mind.

That race has come up very tough.

There are three entries in the Lexington that could realistically get into the field (or at least move up the list to a significant point with a win and those 20 points:

Hades = 30 points + 20 will jump to 50 points and number 14
Encino = 20 points + 20 will jump to 40 points and number 21
Liberal Arts = 19 points + 20 will jump to 39 points and number 22

I suspect if ANY of them win the Lexington and stay healthy they will make the field. No way with one month out that we do not have some defections prior to Derby day - that is the nature of the sport. Heck, Hades, who is currently #24 could possibly get in without racing in the Lexington. Plus, McCarthy has said Endlessly is going in the 3YO turf stakes on the Derby undercard, but the allure of the Derby may be too much. We will see,

With the figure he earned  in the Lexington, a small improvement puts him in the mix if he runs. Will lose Prat, if he does run, maybe Preakness?
