You're all drawing an awful lot of conclusions based on one horse jumping up synth/dirt. If that horse doesn't draw in the morning line favorites finish 1-2.

What's more interesting is, look at the two most similar ones, and what they did in the Preakness.

I was all in on Zandon in futures exactas at 18 and 22-1. If he got past Epicenter I would have backed into a decent result.

JB - \"If ifs and buts were candy and nuts we\'d all have a Merry Christmas.\"

Now...who coined this phrase?  Without looking it up.  It\'s a good one!

Horse won fair & square! Congrats to the connections!
Let\'s be respectful , they do not all cheat, plus has Reed ever had a positive?
Horse won , I lost, respect to the little guys, that\'s the type of scenario that let\'s us dream!
After turning wrenches for 35 years, in my next career, I hope that could be me!
Who do you like in the Preakness?
Oaks Vs. Derby winners, plus a bunch of new shooters.

HP

The aphorism was coined by the Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Don Meredith, who became a sports commentator for Monday Night Football in 1970.

17 December 1970,

Howard Cosell: "If Los Angeles wins, it's a big one, but San Francisco is still very much in it."
Don Meredith: "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas."
Howard: "I didn't think you'd remember that old canard."
Don: "Is that what it was?"

The 1970 quip soon became Meredith\'s catchphrase, but it was a modern and comical twist on a much older proverb dating from the 19th century

"If ifs and ands were pots and pans, there'd be no work for tinkers' hands"

Jerry, sorry - I don\'t quite follow what you mean by \"What's more interesting is, look at the two most similar ones, and what they did in the Preakness.\"

Who are you referring to?

TreadHead

I believe he\'s referring to Giacomo and MTBird, who both finished 3rd in the preak.  Both those horses won at improbable odds due to a pace melt down, so there are plenty of parallels here.

Certainly agree that Rich Strike does not have to bounce, but he is highly unlikely to get the pace setup and trip that led to his Derby win again.  Will be surprised if he wins another G1, won\'t be surprised when he closes for third.

Archives.

Scott— if it was already a canard Meredith didn't invent it.

Why I oughta...let\'s see you come up with a line that good.  Dandy Don!

I\'ll give YOU a canard.

Roman

If I remember correctly, I don\'t think those two ever won a race again.
And Country House never ran again.

Actually, Mine That Bird beat all the other colts who ran in that Preakness.

Roman

But he didn\'t beat the filly. And never won another.

Insane pace cooked a lot of them. Changed the complexion of the entire race. Even Joel got sucked in. Flying mud didn\'t help.

Wasn\'t Mine That Bird out of a Smart Strike mare? Didn\'t his sire excel at a mile and a quarter? Raced on poly? Sound familiar?

I sure as hell didn\'t have the winner. But unusual things are supposed to happen when we get a race like that. I love it. Can\'t stop watching the replay.

A great race call too. \"OH MY GOODNESS\" - legendary. Collmus picked up the winner late, sure, but Durkin didn\'t mention Mine That Bird until he was in front by 5. You can\'t focus on 80-1 shots in 20 horse fields, not when they\'re way back.

Mine That Bird ran in a very rainy race, tough to find silks, etc...

Rich Strike was clearly flying up the rail, Collmus did a poor job spotting him and once again made a poor race call. He should spend less time trying to make cute phrases and actually make an accurate race call for a change.

His big race calls are littered with trying to sound smart and witty. Just call the race.

Let me ask this did or would anyone have played 93 breeders cup winner Arcangues ?
