PIRATE\'S PUNCH has a couple of ugly looking races recently, but one was on the turf, and LTO he knocked-heads with MANDALOUN and MIDNIGHT BOURBON. I just don\'t think he\'s as bad as he looks on paper.

Ran a couple of races at Monmouth good enough to complete here. Problem is those races were way back in 2020.

At 8/1 ML I\'ll take a shot. I think he could be worth something around 3/1.

GREEN LIGHT GO looks like the one to beat. Gappy horse off a top. I\'ll take my chances betting against this one. With that said, I still have to respect his last two races. I think he\'s fair odds at 7/5.

Trainer Morey an interesting study with a 42% strike rate in stakes races
(sample:19).

The More(y) interesting runner to me is Rock Sugar (Race 6), first off claim from
Mott. Sugar was not so sweet, breaking his maiden only after being gelded and
dropped in for a tag in eighth career start. Shows company lines to Waxman and
Risk Taking, also in on today\'s card. Morey is 33% off the claim (sample: 24). I
think it is fair to say that this one really did not develop for Mott TG wise and
will be interesting to see what happens from here.

TG numbers runners ran first three starts off the claim from trainer Mott]

Morey has been training since 1997.

Is this like \"whack a mole\"? I mention a trainer and everyone quick runs to
Google him? Have some real fun and Google Burton Sipp or David Monaci....

This was Morey\'s only medication violation in 25 years of training? (and note
the Paulick Reporters\' had to issue a \"Correction\"--Morey was NOT accused of
\"milkshaking\" horses.) As Robert Shaw might say of one violation in 25 years
\"Not a bad record in this vicinity\".

Of course I would not be surprised if there was more than one
positive/violation in William Morey\'s past. There is a database which is
maintained which tracks medication positives and the Jesuits who educated you
would have been much happier if you researched this more fully.

Sorry to interrupt your \"handicapping discussions\"...were we talking about

I recall giving Dave a wide berth as he moved gingerly to the windows from the walking ring at Saratoga back in the day, $100 bills clutched in hand.

 Often seemed to be on a mission , and didn\'t want to get in his way.

Bringing back memories.

Deputy Shaw won the MD. Million Sprint 1989 for Ron Davis with Dave Monaci his
trainer.

I attended the 1990 race which Deputy was defending champ.
My late great friend Albert Hurren invited me down to MD. and we sat with Ron Davis and Dave Monaci.

Back in the day, Albert used to run trips to the ARC, Melbourne CUP etc. partnering with Rusty McAnally. He was Englishman transplanted to Reistertown Md. Licensed in the travel biz, he had a ton of connections in the racing game.

I remember 2 things about that day very clearly. Ron Davis\' daughter was a legit 10 (this was about a decade past Bo Derek.) She was dating Deputy Shaw\'s jock Jose Ferrer.

Dave Monaci could EAT. Top 10 for sure!!

Okay Boscar\'s picture of David Monaci sets up a story.

Background: Monaci was a mortgage broker/thoroughbred owner. I think Alan
Seewald was his primary trainer. Monaci took out his trainer\'s license and had
some success and saddled over 2000 runners. Monaci\'s run came to an end when he
tried to subvert the policies and procedures of the state \"spit\" barn at
Philadelphia Park f/k/a Keystone n/k/a Parx.

Monaci\'s most blatant act of subversion was that he recruited a third party to
approach a spit barn employee and ask said employee to either intentionally
contaminate or make disappear a sample which had been drawn from one of
Monaci\'s runners. (The state employee was the girlfriend of another licensed
trainer; said trainer also drew a lengthy suspension over this incident).

Monaci\'s second act of subversion involved him drawing a split sample to be
sent to an independent lab, a sample which apparently was never drawn or
received. Monaci, representing himself, claimed that the state somehow was
responsible for the \"split\" never being received or analyzed.

In my mind I only see Big Dave under a full head of steam tackling the poor
woman who was carrying the tainted sample, the vial flying up in the air...

Thats the BIG Big Dave story. A smaller story which had a us all chuckling on
the backstretch at Hialeah is the story Boscar\'s picture sets up. Its 1983/1984
and Monaci gets picked up in a prostitution sting, Dade or maybe Broward.
Standing before the judge and again representing himself, the judge asks Monaci
what he has to say in his defense. Monaci looked up at the judge and said
\"Judge, look at me. You think it is easy for me to get a date??

GREEN LIGHT GO is fortunate Jerkens didn\'t opt for the softer spot against optional claimers in the 7th race. He would have run 4th. ;-)
