CDI has officially put Arlington Park up for sale.  Their plan is to sell it to developers.  This is sad on many levels as this is arguably the nicest racing facility in the US. It has a perfect location but is probably too close to Rivers Casino for their liking.  The word is that CDI will keep the license and use it for a new facility.  When I see it I’ll believe it.

The quality of racing at Arlington has been pathetic for about 6 or 7 years now but it was a great place to spend an afternoon.  I know I’ll miss it.

Aceover

CDI is not interested in a racetrack unless it is needed for a casino/sportsbook.
The cleanliness of Arlington has declined over the years

Ace

I went to Arlington Park in 1995 or so, and I was shocked at how beautiful the facility was.  Sure, out here the mountains at Santa Anita and the beach at Del Mar are nice, but as far as facilities go, Arlington Park was a lot nicer. I went with my late Uncle John, a long time Illinois horse player from the 60\'s and 70\'s, and as I recall I hit two IRS signers and some nice win bets at good odds, and made him proud. Sam Houston Park, which was fairly new at the time I visited around the same era, was also a very nice facility at the time- not sure what it\'s like now.

Ace

Oh no-\"as I recall I hit two IRS signers and some nice win bets at good odds\" - I hope that\'s not redboarding!

Ace:

Even if it was redboarding (it wasn\'t), no worries, the Redboard Police have been
defunded.

TGJB

That’s the one that brought you out of hibernation?

Hey JB:

I am working 70 hours per week now (all hail reverse retirement), so
hibernation (or sleep of any kind) is something I am constantly daydreaming
about.

Lasix questions because I have not been following closely:

(1) If Racing ever gets to ground zero (no race day Lasix anywhere) what
happens when a runner actually \"bleeds\" (using my old school definition, which
infuriates the purists, even a trickle of blood from the nostrils) during a
race?

I do not know if the proposals address this, but I would think a horse that
bleeds during a race should (after a short spell on the Vet\'s list) be allowed
a small dose of Lasix and to carry 3-5 pounds of lead when next raced? If this
was regulated closely I would anticipate that the number of runners treated
with Lasix would be somewhere near 10%?

(2) If a horse is recognized as a bleeder should that prevent said horse from
standing at stud? Should a mare who bled on track be allowed to be bred? The
economic impact here is not insignificant.

My OPINION is that many horseplayers will now focus on what trainers are
getting the best results without Lasix, as well we should, BUT the key piece of
the puzzle will be to determine which horses actually need Lasix to race.

Another OPINION is that laboratories in parts unknown are working on a non-
detectable Lasix substitute, if one is not already available.

Looks like a good card at OP Saturday, though rainy/sloppy appears inevitable.

Have you found a speakeasy yet? I do not drink at home so I have not had a drop
since March 14, 2020.

TGJB

It’s gonna be a while before I or anyone else is drinking indoors.

If you do a search on the TDN site you’ll see some things I wrote on the Lasix situation, and I totally agree about other things being used. We all get to bet in the dark.

How else are insiders gonna make bank, if retail isn\'t in the dark ?

They gotta beat that takeout too.

I would think the market would take care of that one and prices would be set accordingly.  It’s not sure how often that trait is passed down form one generation to the next, but I’m sure there are statistics somewhere.

I\'m local & AP has been dropping for years.  I\'ve attended about 20 Arlington Millions over the years & last year was a pathetic lack of attendance.  Didn\'t even seem like a big stakes day at all.  Not like the old days.  Was a bit sad.

I love the facility, but I only go two days a year.  Million Preview day & Million day.

My understanding why AP/CDI didn\'t push hard on Racasino, is that they are a large shareholder @ Rivers Casino in the area.  An article I read years ago, makes sense they didn\'t want to compete.  The writing was on the walls years ago. No surprise to me.  I walked out last Million, saying this was the last.

Guessing they never CDI never opens up racing in Illinois again, regardless of what they put out in the press.  Another corporation fleeing Illinois.

Have you ever been to balmoral? I went there a few times a few times on derby day are they still operating?

Marlin

Never been to Balmoral harness racing.  closed, but was converted to a horse show-jumping venue, is on the market with an asking price of $4 million.

As of now, there are three horse racetracks in Illinois: Arlington Park, Hawthorne Race Course and Fairmount Park.

They need to show them the door and tell them to fâ€"- off. Go cannibalize another track in another state ... since that\'s the business they seem to be in.

Anywho, I\'m not certain CD has the authority to transfer their racing license.

The other part of this story is the Duchossois family. I have seen no comments from them. They turn out to be the best and worst thing to ever happen to Arlington Park. Thanks for nothing, \"Dick.\"
