Just some observations:

The payoffs were 8+, 10+, 31.00 even and 6.00.
The straight parlay was $2095. ($2.00)
The Pick 4 was $2010.
One favorite ($6.20) if a field of 11.
A $31.00 horse in a field of 10 with a 6-5 fav.
A $10.60 third choice in a field of 7.
An $8.20 horse in a field of 9.
Can\'t recall a scenario other than an odds on fav where the Pick 4 was less than parlay.

The $31.00 was the second Unusual Heat sired horse that won 1st time turf in a week. The other went 8-1 or so.
His turf TGI was 4 pts better on turf than dirt at 10 1/2 to 15 1/4. Was 6 wins from 31 starters....now 8 for 33?
UH is on my list!

Good stuff on the turf sire. We have thought about doing something more elaborate with pedigree for a long time-- with the data we have, we could do what in effect would be a much more accurate version of dosage. Prospective turf ability would be one of the things measured.

The $31.00 was an overlay in the Win pools and an underlay in the Pick 4.  Both Bruno de Julio and Frank Lyons selected this horse (Frank singled it on his TVG Pick 4 ticket,) and Bruno only used 2 horses in this race with the winner being one of them.  The people using this horse were not betting $2 Pick 4\'s - and most likely left the win price alone, concentrating on the exotics and allowing the win price to drift back up.

However, the Unusual Heat\'s have always done well at Del Mar (both turf and dirt) from the first ones that Barry Abrahms started running down here.  And once you can identify a sire who likes this turf course, you can take it to the bank!

Frankel ran the Explodent line (Exborne and Expelled) to win everything from stakes (@ $50) to claiming races.  Unfortunately I haven\'t seen too many of those lately, but Unusual Heat is a good replacement!

Thanks for the info.
Went to the Delmar website and found there was quite a discussion on the topic.
Some were mystified as to how he singled Scrofa in that turf race. All sorts of opinions naturally.
Again, thanks and best of luck.
