Since this article was posted on 3/2 at 5:45 p.m. several trainers that were being shutout altogether in the win column have posted wins in Hot Springs!  Guys like Lynn Whiting, Dan Peitz, John Cox, Frazee and Holthus (2 today) all earned their first win of the meet since then.  Congrats to them!

Meanwhile, two prominent claiming trainers have posted 1 win between them since 3/3 (including that race date but not including 3/2).  Just a big coincidence that these top 5 trainers won a combined 38 races between the two of them through 30 days of racing but in the 7 days of racing since they only have one total win combined.  Maybe they are running bad horses now or they already ran all their horses out of their condition or ran them in a spot they shouldn\'t have.....(Sarcasm on that entire sentence if you didn\'t catch it).

Guess it is all just coincidental........a few other interesting angles disappearing I\'ll keep to myself to play against but be aware the game can shift very quickly!  Whether it is made at least somewhat public as in this situation is part of the problem.

I\'ll give Oaklawn one thing:  At least they are TRYING!  I can\'t say that for a few other racing states......

Somehow I\'m reminded:

Col. Jessep: [from the witness stand] Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who\'s gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago\'s death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don\'t want the truth because deep down in places you don\'t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don\'t give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

Okay, let me get this straight.

They just STARTED TCO2 testing.

As the kids say, WTF?? I made an issue of this back in 2008 to the Jockey Club, and again when Parx announced they were going to BEGIN doing it a couple of years later. Seriously??

Curious how horses from guys like Baffert and TAP, who habitually do VERY well there, do shipping in now for some of these derby preps.

One Liner did win the Southwest stakes for TAP.

TheBull

This testing did not begin until a few weeks ago, after the Southwest was run, from what I understand.

You may find this article interesting as well which discusses an additional measure Oaklawn took at the same time.  The term \"questionable marks\" is certainly interesting.

richiebee

As to \"questionable marks\", the turtleneck is a dead giveaway.

From a practical or pragmatic standpoint, the way TAP\'s horses are running in
Florida (two stakes records at Tampa Bay last Sat)(28% strike rate at GP) why in
the world would he ship out of the Sunshine State...

Interesting that Tapwrit is this week\'s new Derby shooter. TAP\'s Derby numbers not
impressive, I think Tapit something like 0/15 as a Derby sire.

Reading the last paragraph of the DRF article, it seems as if OP has expanded
CO2 testing from stakes races only to \"random overnight\" races. Bravo
Cella. HOWEVER, it also seems (if I am reading this correctly) that OP has adopted
a more permissive CO2 threshold in order to be more in line with other
racing venues.

FrankD.

Maybe they should spend a few more dollars on testing?

I believe this is the third purse increase of the year.

We continue to be the F\'in IDIOTS!!!!!

Good to see Miff mixing it up with the regulars over there in the comments section....the \"clueless\" label a dead giveaway.

Kudos to the Paulick Report for keeping these kinds of stories, and other unpleasantness long swept under the rug by the mainstream racing media, front and center.

I like visiting Saratoga in the winter.  From afar.
