Ask the Experts / Re: Does Twin Spires always suck?

Historically been very solid.  Give them time to work out merger.  Been great on busy days -- Derby, BC, etc.

Ask the Experts / Casino Drive
May 31, 2008, 09:18:22 AM
Anyone else worried Casino Drive might not be at his best.  BB\'s foot problems are publicized but I worry about Casino not having a real work since the Peter Pan and reports that he doesn\'t even look good training?  I want to stab against BB with this pedigree but not sure if Casino is peaking for this race or not?  Anything behind wearing front bandages first time in the Peter Pan?

You didn\'t watch the head on replay close enough in the Monastic Springs race.  The horse in front of Edgar bore out so he tried going inside him.  When the horse bore in Edgar switched went for the hole outside of him.  When he did, the other horse bore out again.  The other horse was the one all over the place causing havoc. MS would have won easily if it wasn\'t for that other horse being all over the place.

Denis of Cork to skip Rebel partially based on the fast T-Graph # he received in his last race...

For those that argue good training and vetting accounts for many of these move-ups mentioned and that we can\'t assume illegal drugs are prevalent in horse racing--I don\'t agree.  Big picture, we now KNOW other \"sports\" are riddled with drug/enhancing agent issues.  This \"sport\" involves horses who can\'t talk and whose underpinnings revolve around gambling, large purses, breeding fees, etc.  Suspicion and testing should be double or triple what it is compared to other \"sports\", thats just common sense. If thier issues are bad, I suspect racings are much worse.  What is more troublesome is pinning down specific names.  But it seems trainer patterns may help indicate suspicious trends, and as JB has called for, Vet disclosures would help even more.  When the trainer and vet patterns overlay each other, you probably have something (other than $$ for sore hoofs).

Boy, that was interesting hearing Allday go after Dicky though.  That is some bad blood.  Where is that one big whistle-blower that brings down some really big names with more than just venom?

You take alot of knocks for your race of weeks sometimes but if anyone was playing superfectas with your selections, you can go wrong for 3 months straight now and still be ahead after this one.  I managed to get it for $1 but wish I had played another \"Thorograph super\" for another dollar at the cost of $24 keying Shake over the others in your analysis.

This horse is absolutely amazing and I am hoping the turf is firm for the BC Mile so he can make amends for the only race he lost (for which I had buried in futures hoping for firm turf-not to be).

Ask the Experts / Meribel-Fragoso
July 05, 2007, 06:25:59 AM
Did anyone see Fragoso\'s ride on Meribel at Philly Park?  He misjudged the wire so badly, we stopped riding her and then pulled her up hard--all before the wire to cost her the race and those of us that bet her.  I know its happened before, but boy it hurts when it actually costs you money.  Don\'t think Clement will put him back up on her anytime soon.

Nice job by the posters on Any Given Saturday!!!

3 out of 6 ain\'t bad especially considering the ammount put up.  Real nice 4th race selection, hope you played that one on its own.

From the connections of Thor\'s Echo......

\"At first we were really down about drawing the rail, but after watching the earlier races we could tell there was a bias towards the inside and we really started to get excited because it was obvious the rail was the place to be,\" said O\'Neill, who won the 2005 Juvenile with Stevie Wonderboy. \"We even started joking before the race about how we could probably sell our post for good money. And even though the post helped, Corey did a fantastic job maneuvering him out like he did.\"

Nakatani said he wanted to stay on the rail as long as he could, but once leaving the backstretch had no choice but to angle out and go after the leaders.

Its hard for me to comprehend how anyone watching all of races sober doesn\'t feel there was a stong rail bias.  Bias doesn\'t mean 100% you can\'t leave the rail, just easier running there than on the outside.  Round Pond and Street Sense are just that much better?  Thor\'s Echo really turned the tables on Bordonaro too!  Watch these rail enhanced horses going forward, I\'ll try to point them out ahead of time so everyone can play along...

Showing Up may be a cut below the top American horses at 12 panels, which means the 2nd rate Euro probably would have beat him anyways.

Totally agree on the golden paved rail comment though.

I agree, if they ran it on turf the result may have been the same for the top 3.  I love Meribel, always been a sucker for grass horses that drop back and make a big run, thus my user name.  I guess this poly at Kee does prove to be like turf to the horses.  Nice to see no scratches in a turf stake taken off the weeds.

Surprised they didn\'t really crack down on them and make them write \"I will not cheat again\" on a blackboard 100 times.

Ask the Experts / Bailey agrees on listing Vet...
May 15, 2006, 08:47:44 AM
Jerry Bailey appeared Sunday on Capital OTB-TV\'s [upstate NY] \'TrackFacts\' with hosts Tom Amello and Nick Kling. Bailey discussed many topics -- but he also took time to briefly comment on drugs in the game -- something he covers in his new DVD series. Bailey\'s idea to address this issue: \"With all the statistics we have available in the Racing Form, and other forms of information -- all the numbers that help us break down races and decide who\'s going to win... You know how many races and starters a trainer has. You know how many starts, mounts, and wins and places and shows a jockey has... Well, why don\'t we list who treats these horses for these individual trainers? List the attending veterinarian. Now, if you do that -- you can keep vet standings. And let\'s keep vet standings. You\'re not pointing any fingers. You not saying this guy\'s doing anything wrong. But, you know what, give us the information and let us make our own conclusions.\"
