Ask the Experts / Re: Hegarty/Rebates

It\'s sad that a paper that employs Crist and Privman (two people I find to have much integrity) would allow someone like Hegarty to write such obviously biased reports.

Crist should be all over this guy.  I lose a bit of respect for him that he isn\'t.

I agree with ch...the win odds, I think, are about correct.

and since the don\'t put guns to our head, I think I\'ll just watch some very fine animals run really fast and see if Pico can lock up the Sprint title today.

It is pretty bad when the racing OFFICIALS (ie the people that ought to be most concerned with exposing the wrong doing) are out and out saying they will cover it up.

Well yesterday may not have been too good, but Mass Media today certainly helped, as with Frankel going ok yesterday, he was likely to at least run the 0 from his last and probably a bit better with the good time into the race.

And the price was certainly right!

Just wish Voodoo could have held on for that exacta.

at any rate, thanks...a likely 8:1 winner always helps the day.

Ask the Experts / Azeri's pattern
October 21, 2004, 06:01:23 PM
Just going over the pre-entries, and looking at Azeri.

Her pattern is kinda hard to read.  On one hand, she\'s bounced each time (twice) this year when she\'s run back to her top and is now coming off her top again for a third time this year, so you would think she would bounce again.  And the bounces haven\'t been small either.  At least two points both times.
On the other hand, it\'s the BC and you\'d have to figure that Lukas will have her primed for whatever is her best at this point.

The Pattern Figs have her 55% to run OFF or worse.

Based on the available info, I\'d have to say she\'s likely to run about a 1.

But how does one then account for the Lukas priming her factor?

comments?

Here\'s my question.  I have been under the opinion that NYRA was always one of the strictest places as far as regulating drug stuff.

Obviously from the recent comments this is just not so.

How did it come to pass that NYRA seems to suddenly be \"the wild west\" regarding enhancing performance?

Ask the Experts / Re: sightseek
October 09, 2004, 11:47:05 PM
Uh...excuse me...Sightseek\'s FIVE best figs are better than ANY fig Azeri has ever run in her life.

That\'s it, end of story.  Sightseek was better and faster.  PERIOD.

Everyone can have their little emotional tear up and all about Azeri, but there can be no doubt but than Sightseek was the faster horse.

and oh yes...Azeri beat Sightseek by 1.5 lengths at the Spa...Sighseek destroyed Azeri by 11 at Belmont.

So please, enough bs about who the best filly was.  It\'s obvious and beyond a doubt...unless one would like to involve emotion.

I\'m glad Bobby is saying that\'s enough.  Good for him, shows his diligence and caring for the mare.

\" PD ran 1/2 point off his\"

Is this off his top from this year or his all time top.  Just wondering, as the two are quite a bit different.

thanks

Jerry - Very interested to see Choctaw\'s figure for this race.  Coming in, his top of 1 was nowhere near competetive with the top older horses tops.  Just saw the Beyer guys gave him a 102 for the win.  Is his thorograph in that range too or did he make a big jump up to actually become competetive figure wise with the best from the older horses?

And PP\'s race is a bit worriesome.  Seems too slow to be true...but maybe it just was a matter of it being a prep.  But it sure didn\'t look to be just a \"prep\" the way he was training.

Ask the Experts / Re: NBC did it again
May 18, 2004, 06:31:16 PM
I\'d like to chime in about how, even if you give NBC the pass because of a show directed more to the casual fan, that ESPN certainly should be doing a better job.

BitPlayer has it exactly right about the morning line odds scenario too.  I had some futures postitions on a few of the the horses in the Preakness and thus was very interested to see the early betting trends.  Not only did they not even mention the early betting Friday (one had to wait until hours later on the bloodhorse or thoroughbred times website to find out that Smarty was getting hammered and thus was a lock to close less than even money...when he was much more than that at most offshore places), but Saturday, as BP says, they waited FOREVER to finally give us updated odds.

Absolutely unacceptable.  It disgusts me that such a simple thing, which is really in the public\'s interest, as it would give them a more accurate account of reality (what\'s being bet as opposed to some idiots morning line...which are horrible estimations anyways as they always have waaaay too much juice built into them), that such a simple thing could not be shown as soon as possible.

You\'d think they\'d WANT to give this information as it would enhance the quality of their telecasts.

I will say this though about ESPN, the blimp shots do rock, they are just absolutely fabulous at conveying more information about how the race was run.  And excepting the 50% of the time that Kenny Mayne attempts his dry humour that, while it works well in other situations (see his NFL pieces), just does not work on live racing telecasts, that in general the announcers ESPN have (especially Randy Moss) are about a gazzillion times better than the fools at NBC (Costas being the notable and obvious exception).

Tom Hammond and Charlsie Canty...I mean my god...is it any wonder that racing has had problems getting viewers with such incompetant and just plain bad announcers.

Even with the big ratings NBC has been generating since it took over triple crown coverage a few years ago from ABC, just imagine how much better it could even be if they\'d simply just hire say Randy Moss and Kurt Hoover instead of the absolute excrement that they now have on display.

And one other thing...is there an honest politican out there anywhere?   I mean for heavens sake...the son of the senator is the one lobbying for MEC.

That sort of insestious conflict of interest just makes me sick.

We are very ill served by most of our public representatives...all partisanship and very little actually focus on the greater good.
