Or how about Belmont where those numbers were drastically different the last I read? \'The effectiveness of this approach is best reflected in the equine fatality rate at Belmont Park that was well below the national average of 1.68 deaths per 1,000 starters in 2018. At Belmont Park, there were six fatalities from 6,142 starters for a mark of .98 per 1,000 starters.\'

To add insult to injury if you needed Owendale in the box what are the chances of getting beat by Rosario on a strong rail? Somebody ask Game Winner please.

Ask the Experts / Re: Let Me Call BS On One Thing Re DQs

I have a few issues with this entire episode. I was disappointed with the commentators contribution to the conversation during the telecast as to the process in a call like this. Jerry Bailey and Randy Moss kept referring to their observation that Prat had no business claiming foul as he was hardly bothered. I don\'t disagree that he was hardly bothered, but the 7 nearly dropped the 1. They know better and did nothing but foment opposition to the correct call. I also take issue with the fact that that the stewards didn\'t call for an inquiry on their own. Imagine today\'s press coverage if the 1 was dropped and the result of that looked like the last lap at Daytona. If not for an extremely athletic WOW and a tremendous reaction in the saddle by TG this could have been a disaster with multiple horses going down in the stretch on the most watched racing day of the year. On top of all the crap that Stronach brought down on themselves earlier this year. This is a great game, with majestic animals, and we seem intent on fâ€"â€"it up. The idea of banning race day Lasix just a further unnecessary trap laid for the sport. I also have a problem with footage that was attributed to the telecast today that clearly shows MS coming out about four paths that they didn\'t bother to show yesterday. https://twitter.com/i/status/1125028240144457730. I have no idea why this specific clip wasn\'t shown yesterday.
Also here is a still pic of WOW clipping heels (pasterns) with MS coming out. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D5xaEnrU0AAVdyX.jpg I may be completely wrong about this but WOW looked loaded prior to the contact. I can\'t prove I\'m right and nobody can prove otherwise. I know one thing for sure, if he we re it wouldn\'t have done me any good so I ain\'t got no dog in this fight. Truth.... MS came out about four paths and interfered with multiple horses, comes down any day of the week and twice on Sunday. To suggest it shouldn\'t happen on our biggest stage is blasphemous. Anyway, that is my two cents.

Totally agree not impossible but unlikely. Strictly from my viewpoint, totally subjective on some hedge runs today, I think we may see an X rail on at least one of the turf courses. Maybe the data won\'t support it but visually it sure looked possible.

Except that ALM just taught me that the Belmont Balcony Move never worked, so I need to erase a lot of history and get my head straight.

Based on the discourse in DC and in most state caps you are using the term \'civilized\' very loosely.

Ask the Experts / Re: NYRA just brought the hammer down on the BC. - 8M Belmont Day w/MetMile

Borrowed from his previous experience at Toys R Us.... it\'s Christmas and will carry us through for the rest of the year. Except that it laid waste to the landscape of the stakes calendar preceding and succeeding Belmont day. Sure hope the weather doesn\'t suck.
Maybe I\'m old fashioned but Memorial Day sure won\'t be the same... may as well not race. There sure isn\'t any purse money left to introduce anything that will remotely draw.... especially not if they are trying to stay the \'Profitable Paisono\'s\' course.

Ask the Experts / Kay gives glimpse into future of NYRA at racetrack symposium
December 10, 2013, 04:38:20 PM
Seriously.... this is how we are going to measure success?
<
"Attendance doesn't spend money," Kay said. "People do.">>
Somebody should point out to Mr. Kay that given New York\'s archaic racing laws the only way NYRA gets paid in spades is if people bet on track or through NYRA Rewards. They get a pittance otherwise for each dollar wagered. So yes, attendance is important. What would be more important is getting those laws changed. But no time for that now.... we have concessions to tackle first.

Mike -
Agree he holds the cards, but there really shouldn\'t be a question there as to what is entitled. NYRA gave up claim to the land, which by the way they paid 15M in taxes on last year as a \'component of the state\', madness in my estimation, in exchange for the 25 year charter with the subsidies spelled out in a contract. Of course this wouldn\'t be the first time the Cuomo administration ran roughshod over anybody\'s rights. Worst thing NYRA board could have ever done was to capitulate when threatened. They had grounds, and capital, to stand their ground. Let a bully push you once............ I would be eager to know how many prominent players involved in oversight that were aware of the takeout issue well prior to public disclosure. 1/9 it was more than two.

I sure hope they reach for professionals, because my current nightmare is that of the state getting NYRA up to the level of competence of say NYC OTB or even the Thruway Authority..... with Joe Percoco as Racing Secretary.

No friend to racing is absolutley correct. And no friend to NYRA is abundantly clear. My understanding is that NYRA is required by law to use a portion of VLT revenue to fund capital expenditures. How in God\'s name do you comply with the law and not show an increase in spending? It seems to me that we are now in a place where no media outlet will question anything that is put out there by the powers that be. Cuomo is no friend of racing either and that will also become abundantly clear. This little manifesto disguised as a report is a warning to the racing industry that VLT funds will be drying up for at least the operator of the state\'s tracks. Where it goes next? I would assume the horsemen and the breeding industry.Watch your back.

Point taken and i don\'t disagree on his talent. Too many poor decisions lately for me, on and off the track.
