Ask the Experts / What to do with POLI-TRACK ??
May 08, 2006, 01:55:15 PM
I\'d love to hear any opinions on how poli-track numbers should be viewed.  Several more tracks will have it down by this Fall.  Do we now have 3 distinct surfaces rather than 2 (dirt and turf)?  Or do we take at face value reports that suggest turf and poli horses fall into 1 group and dirt into the other?  It seemed to me that a lot of horses reversed form (both ways) at Turfway last fall.  I\'m stumped.  Any chance that TG could look at some numbers and draw any conclusions?

When TP was running, I\'d always take a couple of shots and move on to another track.  Just couldn\'t get it.  But now these horses are heading all over the country.  Was it my imagination or was TP fall meet full of horses that came alive on politrack and conversely, some otherwise apparently fit ones that never ran a step.  If politrack goes down at 3 or 4 major tracks, will we be looking at some adjustment...3 groups-dirt, turf, politrack.  But what do I do now.. at Keeneland.  You can\'t swing a cat without hitting a TP shipper.

Unbelievable...First an abcessed foot 7 weeks out, now a freakin bloodclot the size of baseball in his neck (that\'s infected no less).  Servis is no idiot, yet he says that they may have to go to plan B and go to the Lexington in order to be ready for the derby.  Try plan \"S\" for STUPID!  I know nothing about this Porter guy who owns him (the horse, not Servis...I think), but isn\'t there a way to get this guy shipped to Iraq?  Money does not equal brains!

The track condition at Turfway was as bad as it gets so why did I ignore an angle that has worked countless times for me in the past?  All of these horses showed SOME ability or reasonable breeding for the off-going.  None could be tossed on that factor alone.  However, only 1 represented sire (distorted humor) showed the highest win percent of all categories to be off-tracks.  Note 19% overall, 23% off tracks (higher than any other categories).  And while several others showed they could handle the off-going (same % overall as off-going), the dead giveaway that separated DH off-spring from the rest is that 10 of 52 stakes victories came over the slop!  This figure towered above all others.  DH\'s not only handle the slop, they move up about as much as a horse can move up.  Dang-it!

Very new to these sheets and just want to be sure I\'m clear.  If a horse runs a 6 (as a top) carrying 118 and is figured to run back to that top today but is now carrying 123, would you consider that without improvement (returning to his former top) a 7 is his likely best today.
