CtC, deux

I was referring to your immediate defense of TGJB when an individual posted some rather benign  criticism to the ROTW.

Value here is Bucca Al Lupo @ 20:1. Hood on 2 back, then perhaps adjustments made (1/2 cup, full cup??) and he tosses the 0. Lightly raced, wins @ 33%, gets 5 lbs., good stalking style, loves track only no works since last start, but understandable since only 15 days ago. Will be using him top and bottom in ex; 1st and 2nd in tris with Gators, Saratoga, and Don.

MAX looks like a MHL type and now way here sprinting.

Iced Out running line:

start 7th
1/4:.....8th by  6 3/4.....23.50
1/2:.....7th by  5 1/4.....46.75
3/4:....11th by 10.......1:11.61
Str:.....9th by 8 1/2
Fin:.....5th by  2 1/2...1:44.54

Wonder what happened? He fell back to last after a half-mile then came running real strong.

Nobody closed better than Don\'t Get Mad. Granted, only 7 panels but his final 3/8 went in 34.83 seconds or an astonishing 56.8 FPS. That is real race horse time.

Frankel\'s charge is 7:5. Looks like a stone mortal lock. Big chalk in the P3, too. She is in a condition over and only has to improve 6 pts off a 2 1/2 month layoff. If this hoss runs,,,,,

Ask the Experts / L. Wayne Gertmenian
December 09, 2004, 05:06:40 AM
The Jockeys\' Guild extended the employment contract of the Guild\'s chief executive, L. Wayne Gertmenian, until 2009.

In other news, unnamed racing officials confirmed the appointments of J.T. Lundy to the Kentucky HBPA, former jockey Patrick Valenzuela to direct the newly founded Horseman\'s Awarness and Intervention Registry (H.A.I.R) to help jockeys and backstretch workers overcome drug addiction and Chris Harn as Mutuel Director of the NYRA.

Why would CD or any other track be expected to pay for worker\'s comp. / accident insurance? The jockeys are not employees of the track. I just don\'t get it.

Ask the Experts / Turf Disaster 8/19
August 30, 2004, 09:04:31 PM
JB-

Just curious what number you gave the bucket in that near disasterous grass race (DMR 8/19, 7th). Although the 3 amigos stayed way inside, they must have lost ground going under/over the rail. (-2W ?) Would this produce an artifically fast number? The bucket, (1st time handle) was steadied and bumped a rival near the far turn, but did truly save ground, and I am thinking his number will be better than it looked. I am looking for a big effort next time out. Any thoughts?

Ask the Experts / Re: Meadowlake

When the meet shifted to HAW after the fire, they had no time to properly prepare the track and just layed down an additional cushion to accomadate the racing. Older, seasoned stakes horses were having a hard time seeing anything this side of 1:12 and Meadowlake broke his maiden in 1:09 and change.

He then ran in Arlington-Washington Futurity which was GR1 back then. One of the trainers who shipped in walked the track and said of Meadowlake\'s maiden score ...\"if he ran that fast on this, he will win by the length of the stretch\". He broke bad and drew off to win by 10 in a gallop.

I waited the whole winter for the Ogygian/Meadowlake match-up, but it never materialized. Two year olds always seem to pay a big price for fast races.

Add the undefeated Meadowlake to that same crop (3 yo in 1986)

Since when does Trevor D editorialize on behalf of the stewards? They did cover their respective butts, however, by placing WALA 7th and not second. Otherwise their argument that the infraction was against the hoss in front wouldn\'t hold water, like it matters. Curious too is the fact that the eventual winner was the big chalk in the double despite being a distant third choice in the win pool.

\"My hair isn\'t long enough to test,\" he said. \"They never asked me to grow hair. It\'s not my fault. I\'m really irate.\"

This guy is an abomination to the sport. I hope he is gone for good now.
