Ask the Experts / The Vosburgh (ROTW), etc.

If you don\'t like laying wood on the likely heavy favorite that Rock Fall will be, this is a nice betting race.  I\'m siding with Stallwalkin\' Dude in that race.  Two factors on why. I made a nice score with him at the spa and there is no reason to back off him with the likely inflated odds that could be there tomorrow.  The other is he has been toting highweight in most of his starts this year and everyone has to be at equal scale of 124 here.

The Beldame, I like Curalina.  Last weekend Chatterbox flattered the Saratoga fillies with the score in a grade one at Parx.  Wedding Toast has to carry 123 after a June layoff, maybe she doesn\'t bring her A game here.

The Turf Classic, Red Rifle and Twilight Eclipse chased home the impressive looking winner Flintshire.  Red Rifle is the one I\'m leaning towards.  Twilight is 1/7 in the win spot on Belmont sod and his one victory was where others were spotting him weight, he was life and death to get up there too.

At Santa Anita in the Frontrunner, I\'m taking a shot that Swipe can turn the tables on Nyquist with added ground.

Hoppertunity is my pick in the Awesome Again.  Bayern may get a comfortable pace, he got that in the San Diego and squandered that edge though.

Best of luck to everyone.

I am not coming up with anything I can sink into here.  If I were to bet this one, I would go with Catalina Red.

In the Cotillion I\'m coming up with Chatterbox.  Then again, a lot of people will be on this one too.  The PA Derby has Frosted as the quickest on the TGs, but he also had that same edge two back as a top weight and he didn\'t win.  Going with Upstart here, horses that faced American Pharoah in two straight starts or more have come back winning or running with marked improvement.  Mr. Z and Madefromlucky are the two in the PPs that you can see this pattern.

Interesting race.

On first glance Frosted as the highweight yet again in allowance conditions looks like a bet against to me.

I liked her in the Shine Again, I should\'ve stayed on the bandwagon.  It looked like Merry Meadow didn\'t get the best of trips there either.  Not saying she would\'ve won though.  The winner really likes this track and maybe she was put in the wrong spots last year.

I\'m probably in the minority here, but he ran a great race in defeat.  Frosted pressed him from the backstretch up until he had nothing left and they ran the mile was in 1:35.  Saratoga is a track that punishes runners for going that fast, it happened to Liam\'s Map a few weeks earlier.  The damage was done.  Travers to Classic seems to be the likely outcome of this frenzy.  That\'s not really going out on a limb though.

Keen Ice is a good runner and will probably continue to mature.  His finish kind of reminded of the 2007 JCGC that his sire ran.  He also won picking up more weight than the odds-on chalk.

Frosted may be better suited for middle distance races from what I\'ve seen in his two efforts at the spa.

My two cents on Upstart is this; his Derby was a toss, his return effort in the Haskell was not terrible, and maybe he would be better off going to the King\'s Bishop than the Travers where he may have distance limitations.  It seems like this horse goes up to 8.5 furlongs and that\'s it.

He is the honest type, up 7 pounds from last year\'s Whitney and other speed will hurt his chances though.  12-1 seems right for the risk if you think he will pop up here.

Race 4 looks interesting.  The two runners that the public will likey lock in on, Vyjack and Reload don\'t give me that warm and fuzzy feeling.

Charming Kitten was a 200k stakes winner last year and faced Main Sequence before getting laid up for the year.  He came back with 124 in the saddle and ran like he didn\'t miss a beat. Probably not getting 4-1 like the ML states, the 3/1 to 5/2 range looks more likely.

Doing my preliminary handicapping (figure free, just leafing through the PPs), Liam\'s Map looks really interesting in that spot getting seven pounds away from the heavy hitters in this spot.

I\'m looking forward to being ar the Spa tomorrow, the Whitney is one of the races through the course of the year that I look forward to.

On a normal day?  It\'s extremely rare to see.

In the Derby, it\'s a more commmon occurance.  Lukas, Zito, and Pletcher have all done that.

Without looking at the sheets, the Mott runner A Lot looks interesting.  Johnny V. had that nice little funk that went from Independence day to closing day of the Belmont meet where he got a couple of chalks beat.  A Lot was one of them.  He ran quite fast in that final 1/4 and gets weight off tomorrow.

Night Prowler looks like the likeliest from the Chad five, the morning line reflects that as well.  Ran against the Belmont Derby winner last out and Chad was probably aiming for this race since the Penn Mile.

Bred for distance as well, Gone West and Danzig in the blood.

Texas Red\'s last start featured Lord Nelson and nothing else, since that start Lord Nelson is 0/3 (last I recall).

In my defense, my nonsense was posted six or so hours before post time.  I didn\'t expect the public to be that enthusiastic in betting this horse.

As mentioned elsewhere here, Moreno is zero for Santa Anita and the 10 panels may be one more than he wants.  He is down three on Catch a Flight though and he is the honest type of runner, that\'s two positive check marks he has.

Catch a Flight may not bounce that much or even at all.  The race flow favors his style and he does not pick up any weight after that last victory.

Tencendur at an 8/1 ML as the only runner in negative territory is tempting.  That effort may have been an once in a lifetime thing though, he was 40/1 in that race, Daredevil failed to show up, and El Kabier ran his usual race.  I\'m using him in the exactas though, the price is right.

Mr. Z seems interesting here.  Has speed and a minor weight shift on the deep closer Far Right.  He was also within eight of the triple crown winner on a fast track with a 1w4w trip.  Divining Rod was eight behind AP in the mud with a 3w1w trip.
