Ask the Experts / Re: West Coast

The seminar will tell a lot.  I was almost leaning the other way on West Coast.  He seems like a bounce candidate.  Two top efforts back to back. Everything set up perfect for him in the Travers.  The Penn derby may be deceiving with the competition.

Also has me curious how Baffert who loves the camera more than anyone has horses that skip the triple crown series altogether and then become total monsters at 3 1/2.

If the seminar says bet him then I will be on him.

great great seminar.  Hit the travers with a 3/3 daily double, exacta, trifecta and super.  Thank you so much.

Paying off my daughters car.

Thorograph rocks.

I think you are both right.  Horrible ride.  West coast was tough.  Think it would of been a nail biter finish.

Frank,

I know you are right that most people liked the work.  I would of liked to have seem him eager and moving up steadily but I didn\'t.  I wanted to root for him.  My friend really liked him. (I think he saw him win at Churchill and has been talking derby ever since}. IMHO I just didn\'t like what I saw.  Also felt that if this weren\'t the derby both MCcraken and LOL would not run.  They both have the look of a guy that just badly lost a bar fight.

Have you seen anything else you really liked?

You know I am starting to think the Bluegrass this year could end up being one of the worst derby preps ever.  Got to see J Boys Echo work on Sunday and absolutely nothing special about this animal at all.

Saw McCracken the next day and nothing special here either.  Disagree with Welsch comment.  I felt McCracken was beat right from the git go and could never catch up until workmate pulled up on gallop out and then McCracken went by.  Not an impressive work mate either.

Have seen Tapwrit but only once and he didn\'t work or run and that was a while ago.  Impressive looker.  Big striking animal.

Also saw Untrapped work and he was impressive. Would of missed most of this workout had my friend not bumped me to pay attention.  Also striking imposing animal.  (Jesus these Tapits!!).  Not impressed with Untrapped on any of his races however.

Hence was an excellent workout and he looks like a winner.  Ran fast and did it easy.  Looks to me to be dead fit and smooth.  Much the best of what I have seen.  One of the best workouts I had ever seen in my life was Union Rags at Keeneland and this Hence was close to that if not equal.  Solid horse.  Looked ready to run that day.

Also saw Lookin at Lee and he is a worn out tired horse.  No energy.  Dull work.  Wanted to go back to the barn.  Scratch.

I don\'t see McCracken or J Boys Echo or Lookin at Lee having any chance to even hit exotics.  Hence is a different story and untrapped could hit exotics.  At least he is moving in the right direction.

Wont see any more works.  My friend Mark will be at Churchill most of next week and back home before Oaks day.

I cant remember needing the seminar more than I do this year.  Really looking forward to it.

Ask the Experts / Re: Wood Memorial

Wood is a tough one to call.  You can argue that this was the most impressive prep winner so far.  If there is a concern its the 39 and change for the last three furlongs.  It would help if he gets an American Pharoah type setup in Derby.

I wouldn\'t mind seeing Motion win.  You know this horse will be competently trained.

I also feel the Tampa Bay winner looked like a big imposing animal.  But again that is a TV view.

I like to see the horses when I can in action.  Havent seen much yet.  I will be at the Bluegrass and hang around Keeneland for several days but I will also be at the Arkansas Derby.

One thing I like to do (and it has not lead to success yet) is I like to view these animals like the NFL combine.  Which is getting tougher since my eyes are getting worse and TV does not give you the best picture.

My question is this:  Have there been any horses that have stood out to any of you physically.  Either very small or very large.  I did watch the Louisiana Derby(only on TV) and felt that Girvin looked smallish.  State of Honor (again only viewed on TV) looked like a striking large colt.  Also thought Always Dreaming was a striking horse.  What are your opinions?

Jimbo,

I agree with what you are saying.  The track wasn\'t really speed biased.  But do you think the Florida Derby had a slow early pace?

I was extremely glad I purchased the thorograph today.  Right off the bat a $21 winner. A lot of awesomeness today. I will definitely use for the Belmont.

Had the Preakness too pretty good.  I knew after yesterday I had to play romans horse.

I really like the insight thorograph had on Stradivari.  Really has me thinking.

I agree with some of this.  I think when TGJb says \"an X is coming\" he means very soon probably in the next two races.  I also agree with this.

I don\'t know if Nyquist is a better derby winner than AP or not.  There is also a chance that he was running on a souped up track.  But I will say that if AP was running close to fractions of 45 and change in his derby he would not have won.  Or if Danzig Candy had run last year there would of been no triple crown winner.

I personally California Chrome would of destroyed either one.

I am also not going to have Nyquist in first or second on any of my tickets.  I did however make the same mistake last year.  Hard headed.
