Ask the Experts / Re: Racing Don't Need This!

IMHO, horse racing\'s only long term chance is to reduce the take out to be comparable to poker or blackjack (5%).
To me, that means the number of tracks need to be reduced dramatically (like 2 per time zone) similar to the Hong Kong set-up. Hopefully, this would concentrate handle enabling lower take-out.
Lower take out means more winners/players.

Ask the Experts / Nasal Strips

On CNBC, Sherman just said that nasal strips do not do anything for a horse while racing since their nostrils are fully open naturally when racing. They only help a horse catch their breath sooner after the race is over.

According to this, the real weight carried may vary from the official weight by up to 5+ lbs.
\"Each day\'s official racing program would state: \"A jockey\'s riding weight includes riding clothing, saddle, undergirth, and pad. The weight listed in the program does not include the jockey\'s safety equipment, which consists of the helmet, goggles, safety vest, and overgirth, and may also include a pommel pad, girth channel, and/or chamois. The total weight of this excluded safety equipment shall not exceed five pounds. The saddlecloths, whip, and bridle are not included in the five-pound limitation on safety equipment. The weight of the saddlecloth, bridle, whip, and all safety equipment is additive to and not included in the program weight or announced overweight.\"

Ask the Experts / Race Shapes / TG pace figs
July 15, 2011, 11:07:34 AM
Wouldn\'t it be more valuable to have TG produce pace figures in the same manner as their final figs instead of times like in Race Shapes?
For example, using TG figs for pace, a couple of typical race horses might show a pace call of 9 and a final fig of 7 (more fractional calls could also be included) vs. a pace fig of 7 and a final of 7.
One approach might be to take the final TG fig and back into the pace fig by adjusting for beaten lengths, paths, wind, etc that do not apply to the pace distance.
Probably underestimating the complexity involved in doing this.

What\'s up with Motion\'s new (at least to me) training approach with AK?
4 turf and poly races then a couple of dirt workouts then the big Derby win and now back to poly for workouts and then show up race day for the Preakness. Trying to beat the poly-big dirt fig--big dirt bounce scenario??

OK so you don\'t like this idea.
You were the first and maybe still the only figure maker who makes the previous days TG sheets available to the masses for free. I would guess that move increased your business a lot because it allowed potential TG users to see how powerful the TG figures could be in improving their handicapping without investing any upfront money.
Just keep in mind that us handicappers(especially us weekend warriors) need all the help we can get just to stay in the game which we enjoy so much. Keep up the good work in providing innovative and even more potent handicapping data/info.
