Ask the Experts / Re: D Wayne at his best..

DWL\'s MO is that he usually is able to attract owners who don\'t interfere (usually because they don\'t know much). That way, he can do what he does without any outside interference.

There was once a DWL trained horse who was regally bred and expensive and this horse had a stretch of 13 races that were contested at 13 different tracks with 13 different riders. That\'s correct, this horse ran 13 times in a row at all different distances, never had the same jock twice in a row and didn\'t race more than once at the same track in this span.

DWL was actually the trainer who really made it fashionable for owners to give their horses to politicians instead of actual horse trainers. DWL has had great success over the years because of the amazing asst trainers he\'s had.

RP was chasing graded stakes fillies earlier this year, she was battling head and head with Tuscan Evening in May and before that she lost to Annaba\'s Creation, that\'s the horse who almost did Z.

The thing i noticed about RP in the race she dueled with Tuscan Evening is that she stopped so suddenly. To me, that signifies that maybe she chokes off her air or has some kind of breathing problem. ALso, she\'s a filly, and can be temperamental. When a horse has breathing problems or flips her palate, the jocks like to \'send\' a horse like that and not \'grab\' her. So, her erratic performances may not be \'drug\'s on\'  related, but rather a different riding strategy.

It also helped that this field was not really all that great.

In defense of the OP, it does seem that whenever there is a horse who runs great first off the claim, its usually a trainer known for doing this. You seldom see a horse who is claimed off one of the \'usual suspects\' by a no name guy and this improvement occurs.

IF this particular example was just a horse feeling good one day with the new barn and not feeling good for the old barn, than i\'d love to see just one example of a horse who got claimed by Joe Nobody off one of the \'training elite\' and runs a hole in the wind. Does anyone know of an example of Joe Nobody claiming one from one of the usual suspects and exploding him/her into orbit?

If this situation was totally honest, no drugs were involved and it was all on the up and up, you would think that this situation could happen in the reverse.....yet, it never seems to happen that way.

Its a clown statement. If you want to say that i love my horse and think he has a shot, that\'s one thing. But to try and criticize Rachel to prove your point is really silly, makes you look like you don\'t know much about the game. Alydar was such a \'great\' horse he finished 2nd NINE times, many times not switching leads. Great horses WIN, not hang in the stretch and refuse to go by.

Zenyatta camp is going to try and spin this and say that they\'re going to the Breeders Cup and if Rachel doesn\'t show up that\'s not their fault.

The reason that the entire racing community needs to come down hard on these connections is because Zenyatta has had GOLDEN opportunities to race against males and never once took the shot. Also, another kicker is that Zenyatta\'s style being a one move closer makes her less vulnerable to get destroyed by males and have her heart ripped out and never be the same. Its much easier to \'protect\' a filly/mare who\'s a closer than one who\'s a pace presser like Rachel. You just sit in the back, make your run and you either get there or you don\'t.

I was very disappointed that Z didn\'t try the Classic last year on her hometown track. I was PRAYING she was going to go in that race. I was set to make my biggest lifetime bet on her in there at what, 4-1 or higher?

Her stablemate Tiago got 3rd and he isnt half the horse.

I\'m a huge fan of Zenyatta, but these connections make it really hard to root for her.

I had 5 out of six and also singled the Drysdale in the 5th leg. I also went deep by deep in the first two legs. I had one small ticket that found the 2nd leg winner on a 2 deep ticket, but i missed the Headley in the 4th leg on that ticket.

This is great. We need more tracks to put the squeeze on the cheaters. Until we stop giving wrist slaps for violations, this stuff will never stop. Tracks need to adopt the \'we can refuse the right to serve anyone\' mantra. If a convienience store can do it, why not a racetrack?

Kudos CD, inc. well done.

Exactly. If bettors have the ability to bet after the \'start\' they are still going to be able to wager after John Q Public has long been locked out.

As far as perception goes, as long as people aren\'t betting after the race starts, i think people will be ok with odds changes as part of the game.

So, lets say the industry gives the fans this bandaid (instead of figuring out a way to make sure no one is betting after stop signal is given) to the fans, than what?

Are we willing to accept others betting after the start as long as we don\'t see odds changes happen turning for home? Regardless of when they close the pools, if they don\'t really address past posting, people who bet after the close signal is given will still have a huge edge.

Keep this in mind. If people really and truly have the ability to wager after the start, what is going to prevent them from waiting till the horses are on the backstretch to make their wagers? John Q will have been long locked out while the past posters will be waiting until the backstretch to make their plays anyway.

Whenever the judges take no action, i love it. The last thing we need is judges altering results and playing god with winning horseplayers money. Pay the winners. If you cross the line first, you should get paid. horse racing is a contact sport, and \'stuff\' happens sometimes, but you have to pay off the winners.

I didn\'t like that wacky horse because i thought she was going to be even money, i look up and the public gets sucked into Garrett the anvil Gomez and makes him a stick, this wasn\'t hard, the value said \"bet me\".

That just a game horse was bet off the board way moreso than his \'beyer figs\' suggested he would be. I was really stunned that he was 6-5 and kept getting bet like the entire world knew he was live. Then, he runs off by 10 after chasing a fast pace. I thought he was bad value at that low price, but the inside money knew best.

The 6 horse was much the best at 9-1 in there, if you bet against him, you got lucky that the jock basically fell off him at the start, watch the replay and thank the racing gods that the jock on this one was incompetent.

Z\'s performance yesterday was her best lifetime effort imo. She was hopelessly beaten with 20 yards to go and just found some kind of gear to get up to win. For a horse that big to be able to accelerate at the end of her race in that fashion was breathtaking, she just refused to lose. Is she as good as Rachel? Of course not, no one who really knows this game is pretending she is, but she\'s a fantastic plastic running daughter of a gun and that\'s good enough for me.

Its easy to ride a 50-1 shot and keep him covered up and a million miles back. When you are 4-5 its hard to ride the same way, even though the horse needs a certain type of ride.
