I actually used Giacomo among 7 other horses in a pick 4 that year (figuring that the horse would be better getting away from speed favoring Cal tracks). Got 3 out of 4 in that sequence, but couldn\'t get Madcap Escapade home in the Humana Distaff at like 4-5? I think that might have been her only loss under a mile?

Pick 4 paid over $164,000.

Reminds me of my well thought out response when my friend\'s wife (who doesn\'t know which end eats and which end kicks) asked me if I liked that Bird horse, Mine That Bird.  I said, not at all, but I like that other Bird horse, Summer Bird.
She\'s still in my ear after all these years after she \"scored\" on her $ 2.00 show ticket.
Brutal.

I am dam near falling out of my chair

I\'ve known Dallas Stewart for nearly 35 years, and nothing would make me
happier than to see him in the Derby winners circle.

That being said, ComCurve (and Uncle Sigh) are both NW2LT, and that makes both
of them, for me, easy to eliminate from the TOP SPOT.

Speaking of Dallas Stewart, last year he had Golden Soul, also NW2LT, pick up
the pieces in the Derby for second at 34/1. Although GS is still eligible for
NW2LT, he goes v WTC in the Alysheba Friday. GS has yet to replicate his
performance in last year\'s Derby and really deserves some class relief.

Enjoyed experiencing the seminar and handicapping the Oaks Day card, every now
and then sneaking a lecherous look at Donald Sterling\'s twinkie. I hope her
people are working on the \"money shot\", the photo of her wearing that goofy
visor and nothing else.

Jim,

I remember that race all too well.  My father.....Giovanni Giacomo.....and I don\'t have a dime on him.  He never let me hear the end of it. He passed away in 2007, so my sister has taken up the slack.

She came over yesterday to cut my hair (whats left of it), saw horse racing on the TV, and mentioned Giacomo and the non bet. Thanks sis.

Some of you may have heard this one.  My wife\'s name is Sara.  Went to the Belmont Stakes to see if War Emblem can pull off the triple crown.  Horse in the Belmont named Sarava.  My wife tells me to bet $10 to win.  I go up to make my brilliant bets and realize I did not make her bet.  I go back but the line is too long and I can\'t get it down.  Sarava wins at 70-1.  I get in the car and I have to call my wife and tell her this story and ultimately we agree that I will pay her half (she\'s nice to me sometimes).

So on top of having a horrible day I have to shell out for this bet and listen to this guy Jerry Brown goof on me for the whole car ride home.  I still remember thinking (and saying) \"why couldn\'t I take up stamp collecting!  You have to hate yourself to have this as any kind of hobby!\"  And yes I am waiting for her to remind me of this as she does on every big racing day.

BB

My memory of the Giacomo Derby here on the TG board was that no one cashed with the exception of one guy - he went by davidrex, I think - who liked Closing Argument and wheeled him up and down with maybe 8 other horses, including the top 4 finishers of the SA Derby. I think the exacta paid 8 grand or thereabouts. Anybody know what happened to davidrex? JB?

TGJB

Yeah, that was great. \"Honey, I got some good news and some bad news\".

I didn\'t have to get on you, you did a running monologue from the time they crossed the wire through dinner.
TGJB

BB

was that the car ride that sprung \"indifference to human suffering\" as the \"must have\" for any horseplayer?

HP

It was very funny.  You have to laugh to keep from crying, and you get a lot of practice with that in horse racing.  That day featured laughing AND crying.

With regard to the Giacomo Derby that bomb Closing Argument ran an amazing race coming in second.

HP

Yes BB that is correct!  I forgot but that was a good line.

I wasn\'t doing TG at that time but my entire family and I got lucky that day.
My wife is the consummate $ 2.00 bettor and has only made 2-3 bets a YEAR for the last 10 years or so. So yeah, she\'s somewhat selective.

My son was visiting from Los Angeles and convinced me to play Giacomo.  I told him the horse looked like @#$%, just got thumped in the SA Derby  and if Alex doesn\'t fall down he is the likely winner.

Long story short, my son and I pool an exacta wheel top and bottom, a ALL/ALL/10 pick 3 and a large Alex/Giacomo wheel and a reverse in the tri.  They run 1st and 3rd.

My son tells my wife that Mike says for her to bet $ 20.00 across on his horse.  Of course, she asks me to \"loan\" her the 60.00.  I asked her, why don\'t you just play it yourself?  She said she didn\'t bring her purse....(Smart woman or dumb husband).

So she takes about $ 1600.00 out of the race and gives me my 60.00 back.
Since then she asks me in the big races who Mike\'s on as long as they\'re double digits in the morning line she\'s on board for 20.00 across.
Giacomo, Drosselmeyer, Richard\'s Kid,  Princess Slymar, etc, etc.  Her ROI is off the charts.

She asked me a week ago who Mike was riding in the Derby.  I said Hoppertunity. She says what is his morning line?  I say probably 8/1.
She says, \"I\'ll pass.\"

You gotta love that type of methodology....

My friend must have married her sister. The lovely couple was at the Turning Stone Casino in Central New York for a getaway weekend; she was chasing a slot machine that she knew was going to pay. They were upstairs in the room around midnight; a mid 60\'s couple. She told her hubby I want to go play that machine but I\'m up about $ 100 and don\'t want to lose it. My friend was was hooked for about $500 said you put in $50 and I\'ll give you another $50 and we\'ll go partners on it. She grabbed his money and ran down stairs; came up an hour later and gave him his $50 back. He asked how did you do, she replied I won $600 and didn\'t need your $50 so I gave it back.

You can\'t make this stuff up!!!
