I was probably in the negligible minority who actually enjoyed Cassidy\'s calls.  I guess that places me in the less is more school of announcing.  So much of sports broadcasting now has way too much insertion of the talking head into the equation.  Thanks to the mute button, I can watch sports the way that you used to be able to watch races at Keeneland.  I think the high water mark in football announcing was hit by Ray Scott, calling the Packers\' games.  \"Starr...Dowler...Touchdown.\"

The closest I ever heard Marshall come to editorializing was with the deliciously named, \"Bodacious Tatas,\" particularly when she won, and he could punctuate the call with an emphatic \"in front.\"  Which brings me full circle to Richie\'s colorfully described passage of OTB parlors and painful round trips, which could easily provide the inspiration for an anthology of similar tales, called \"The Long Ride Home.\"  One of my most memorable came after watching the aforementioned \"Tatas\" race at Monmouth on a 4th of July weekend, and then stopping on the way home at an OTB in Binghamton, where I left Herr Von Kininchen (sp?) off an exacta part wheel that would have covered gas, lodging and Sea Bright bar bills.  The drive home up Rt. 390 was more scenic than the Belt Parkway, but screw scenery.

Same issue for easter, huh?  It is remarkable how blatantly unjust this is and nobody cares.  There have got to be constitutional lawyers out there willing to take slam dunk cases against ridiculous legislation on a pro bono basis.  Almost makes me want to brush up on my constitutional law.

SoCal-- speaking of which, with several states now doing some form of the ADW surtax, I keep waiting for someone to bring up the Commerce Clause.

It should be HANA. But it won\'t.

Arrghhhhhhh.

I am not going to list all of the factors that could combine to give us
access to less and less of the quality racing we want to bet on in the next
few years, how NYRA has gone from industry leader to laughingstock in twenty
years, how the Stud Book has been turned into a comic book, etc. You\'ve heard
it all from me, or maybe you read the first few words and tuned out. Fine.

I am a degenerate horseplayer and this does not bother me on any level. There
is a boatload of challenges to the future viability of thoroughbred racing in
this state; Dark Palm and Dark Easter are not in that boat.

I guess if I had time I would enjoy reading how the Commerce Clause has stood
up to the internet.

For those NY residents trying to escape this Draconian ban, this oppressive
lockout, please be informed that both Monmouth and the Meadowlands, located
in a state where you can bet on anything, are both closed for Easter Sunday.
Looks like Parx is closed also. Will have to check on New Haven and Delaware next. Road Trip!?

Really? All this angst over two racing days? To me JB is the only one who has
any skin in the game, if indeed this two day hiatus affects the TG bottom
line.

A bunch of people feel strongly about this, so maybe you can prevail on JB
for next year to have a Palm Sunday/ Easter Sunday New York resident only
handicapping contest. Obviously must purchase the product for those days to
be eligible. JB, get the TG Marketing and Promotions Dept to work on this.
The winner to receive 100% of the pot and free month of product; steak knives
for the second place finisher.
