Let me give just one example of how someone could cheat.

Remember the BC Pick 6 scandal? What those guys did was play a number of tickets, 1x1x1x1xAllxAll. After the fourth leg-- before the willpays are shown-- they walked into the tote room and manually changed the first four legs to the winners.

What\'s to keep a hacker from doing that for any multiple race bet, any time before the second to last race has been run?

Win pool changes are only a tiny fraction of the possible problems, and NYRA is only one venue.

Not saying there couldn\'t be holes in the system and I\'m all for better security.

I just haven\'t seen evidence that at NYRA in particular , there\'s anyone past posting the WIN/EXACTA/DD for size.  Sure, they could do it for small $ and escape easy detection.

Plenty of big late $ shows on losers.

In the real world, e.g. Wall Street, hundreds of billions of $ are electronically moved daily via Swift/Chips and other systems without a hitch. The systems are expensive and virtually impregnable.

Racing, on the other hand, does not spend anywhere near enough money on technology. It is doubtful that the expertise required to run and monitor just a $10 billion annual business is there.

Wall St has plenty of issues, but it\'s true, racing is quite primitive in the way it handles its data.

Making a big deal about updating odds every X seconds just the  tip of the iceberg.

miff

Yea, strictly speaking about the Wall St technology. Wall St sports biggest thieves in world.

Read The Proposal, 6-1 to 7/2 at the bell, still running.

anyone notice the betting patterns in NY getting nuttier by the day? maybe its just me.

There is a new tote company handling NYRA now. There have been some bugs in the system last few weeks with all sorts of wrong odds and pool updates.It\'s being debugged each day.

Dont know if the above has anything to do with what you are observing or it\'s something entirely different.

Results of racing at Belmont this meet more aberrational than seen in many moons with a few big players taking water and backing off. Cheap turf sprints a lottery, many results impossible to comprehend.
