Orb Toyed With This Field

TAP sent everything at him. Frontrunners and closers. Chad Brown had his ready and leading at the top of the stretch. Doubt we will see a repeat from Golden Soul. Two dull ones in a row for Luckyday. No New Shooters who were sitting this one out. Oxbow pressed a really rapid pace and held respectibly but he cant go with Orb!

Ran wide, sized\'em up and ate\'em up. Would not be surprised at if it happens again in the Janneys home territory....

Orb ran a tremendous race, but it looked to me like he bore out in the stretch.  That was one tired horse, and for good reason.  No cinch in two weeks.

Silver Charm

Normandy Invasion bore out in front of him. Final quarter was a tad slow. Orb was put to a strong drive for 3/8ths to 7/16ths of a mile. He might CRUSH this field in two weeks. The place to get him is in 5 weeks....

Think Verrazano might have something to say about that, if it is dry.  Jocks comments said he was really struggling to get a hold of the track and was working way harder than normal to try to keep up.  If he comes out of this race in one piece, has the right running style and number power to be a big factor in the Preakness.

Based on the chart comments my guess is Orb, NI and Rev roughly matched their tops. ML and the bomb that ran second probably ran new tops.

Okay, who\'s gonna incur Pdubs wrath talking about who set the crazy fractions two years in a row...

Or... That was his last start.

Verrazano came out of the race with a gash on his hock, no doubt well earned when he backed up and drifted out into the rallying Will Take Charge at about the 3/16 pole.  WTC nearly went down.  I would be surprised to see Verrazano back anytime soon, if ever.

Verrazano looked awful going to the post.
Dripping kidney sweat down his back legs.
He was wobbly in the stretch at Aqueduct.
He\'s toast in the short term IMO.

I would give Itsmyluckyday another try before Verrazano.
Fla Derby off two months.
Five weeks into the Derby with no real work the two weeks leading up to it.
Could be he needed this.
Or maybe he\'s cooked as well off the January fast races.

SteveB

Golden Soul came out of the Louisiana Derby with Rev and ML as well as Departing who will probably turn up in Baltimore. It is turning out to be a key race.

Breakage

Smith losing his brain and annihilating anything near the front or that moved early had nothing to do with anything-Orb toyed with them!

No problem with the ride last year.

Today was a bit of a head scratcher.

Yeah, I\'ve been scratching my head all spring at the number of people (not just here) that were saying toss all the Louisiana horses.

I get that Verrazano has the brittle family history, but there were an awful lot of other horses running zigzags in that stretch, and if our criteria is largely based on \"because he/she ran a -2 in 3yr old spring\", then there are several other horses we saw this weekend that may be done for as well.

Just re-watched the DVR, since I was on-track locally and couldn\'t hear a thing.  The biggest thing I missed watching it live is that VYJACK was all the way up into 2nd place around the first turn.  Smith had an excuse, they put blinkers on his horse and he said he was way too keen and he had no choice, if we are questioning rides the ride on Vyjack is 10X more questionable IMO.

MonmouthGuy

Normandy Invasion was the only horse in the first group of horses (horses that chased the pace) that finished in the top half of the field.

Agreed MG.  Finish of that race reminded of when Super Saver won it in the slop.  SS and PoP were spent.

Boscar Obarra

VYjack acted up in the warmup according to NBC , was rank early on and stopped cold a half mile from the finish, was eased.

Didn\'t train well either according to most reports.
