Is it for certain she will not run? These Eligible runners are dropping like flies. Some way down the list on points are not on the grounds. Theoretically Pletcher could say Winning Cause is in and the day of the Draw pull him out and say The Fillys is in if nobody else is here to run.

The Owner is a Sportsman. The Oaks is NOT the Derby. But two problems is she would need a Jockey and if she did win she would have to wheel back in two weeks in the Preakness.

Silver,

You Must be Dreaming.  But if she did somehow end up in the Derby field, I think it would be a great thing for Derby ratings and interest...

For some reason, as soon as I read your post I thought of mjellish conferring with his clocker, and finding out that she is thriving, seeing how TAP does on the opening days, and then letting us know about a day or two before the Derby that he is licking his chops for a big score and knowing the exact amount he might make with the 2nd and 3rd place finishers he will be using.

It would suddenly make the race extraordinarily interesting....

I don\'t know, I kinda prefer Sightsound\'s posts over this one.

Silver, Yeah, this would be allowed.  Scratch winning cause and say the filly replaces him.  You do understand that I have the same chance of running in the Derby that the filly does.  she has no points.

And if she bounces enough, I might be able to beat her.  But I am not sure 1 1/4 miles is my best distance.

Jimbo,

Bob Baffert entered another speed horse one year (named after Dan Chandler owned by Mike Pegram) and then promptly scratched him less than 12 hours later. he had the only other speed horse in War Emblem and he succeeded in keeping another horse out. The Media applauded this move a savy smart doing what it takes to win. Barry Irwin who was the manager of the horse that got kept out, and had owners involved excited about running in the Derby, had a different opinion. Baffert ran the horse I beleive in the race after the Derby in an allowance race which he easily won. Creating some type of unique Late Double.

Regarding others who have points getting in. I would be fairly certain that in a few days.....say by Sunday.....they need to be there, at Churchill Downs. After Eight Belles Churchill changed around a little and became more involved in pre-race Inspections. In a subsequent year An Arkansas horse (and I want to say Win Willy) was not doing well and by Sunday they all but said this horse is not running. Fortunately Nick Zito was around with runner who had run 4th in a couple of Stakes Races....yes 4th....and he became the 20th horse. Can the Track walk around and scrape up somebody, anybody to be the 19th and 20th horses....for sure. Are they going to encourage a horse with 5 points to get in before the Filly?

Regarding what I just said. Is Governor Charlie confirmed? Will his bad foot pass Vet? Uncle Mo looked like TOTAL CRAP all week and everybody said he will not enter. And he didnt. so do we go find a Zito-type who ran 4th and got some points and tell The Filly \"we dont want you in here\".

Yes they have a new Points Process. They also have several other processes. If they go looking around for Nags to fill a 20 horse Gate before asking the connections with the Filly \"are you sure you dont want to run\" they have disgraced their own race. Because the fastest horse will not be running on Saturday but instead on Friday.....

Silver,

You are being silly.  There are other words, but I chose silly.

The filly won\'t be allowed to run.  Period.  The rules are the rules.

TGJB

The filly won\'t be allowed to run IF they have 20 with points who want to run. Seems to me if they want they can just enter and see, it\'s on a different day than the Oaks.

But Pletcher already has Verrazano and a lot of others in there, he may not even want her in the Derby. She\'s not going to be a stallion, that\'s where the money is.

He may be apprehensive after Rags to Riches came of out the Belmont Stakes never the same. Agreed he has a lot of good candidates already. A jockey decision is an issue, something early planning would have secured a backup plan. and now they really have none. And BTW that Belmont Stakes push was not Pletchers but the Owners.

I am not 100% on this and almost mentioned it earlier but I am not sure you can enter in both the Derby and Oaks. This may have come up with Eight Belles. And I believe they draw for the Oaks the day before the Derby. With all the early wagering, Doubles, etc it gets messy.

And Jimbo I dont take any of this personally.

PS-Please run Wise Dan in the Woodford. I hear Point of Entry has grown a tail and is breathing heavy fire now!!!

It\'s not about Pletcher though - it\'s about the owners of the horse.  Stonestreet doesn\'t own any of the other Pletcher Derby entrants.  If they want to try to run in the Derby, then Pletcher says \"Yes ma\'am\" and gets on it.  I don\'t get the idea, though, that she wants to run in the Derby with this filly.

Even with a week \'till the Derby draw one has to think that at least one (possibly two) that is currently in the top 20 are going to come out.
