Sometimes synth/dirt is just synth/dirt

They often just run the same figure on both, here\'s a recent example.

If Talamo goes wide and lets her run at all, doesn\'t she run a 0?

Buck,

I posted this right after on Sat but I can\'t let it go, that was literally one of the worst rides in a 6 horse field of all time.  What the heck was he thinking riding the best horse in the race like that?

I am bitter because I own a share of Lemon Drop Kid and we need all of the graded stakes wins and purse money we can get with this guy.  So brutal.

People were worried about Talamo on IWR before the Wood and then he did well in the Wood so now that\'s not really a concern for people but I think it should be based on that ride.

As Miff said afterward, for every one good one he gives you, you get two bad ones in return.

Good luck to anyone who has him on top in a 20 horse field on a track he\'s never ridden before.

Uncle Buck

She never got a chance to run down the stretch that\'s for sure. I dropped the ball big time on Lemond Drop Kid. Loved him in the Breeder\'s Cup Juvey at 2, then played him again aggressivley in the Derby that year. Gave up on him for the Belmont. Ouch! You\'re lucky to own a piece of him. Nice horse

Thanks Buck, I am going to visit him next weekend as part of my Derby week trip, can\'t wait!

Well Talamo got lucky today. His ride on Allicansayis Wow in the 7th at Hollywood almost had a bad ending.

Rick B.

Give the kid a little credit -- he quickly regained his composure after he \"got lucky\", put his horse back into the race...and won.

Most journeymen would have wrapped it up after nearly getting dumped, and would have been too busy crapping their pants to even think about getting back in the race.

Rick,

Didn\'t see the race here, however hearing about Talamo regaining his composure
erks me a bit.Top of the line athletes in their own respective fields don\'t lose
their composure.They\'re on top cause they let the other guy do it.Having read
Talamo\'s critics and watching him in the gotham my conclusion is auto-toss.

Here\'s what I saw--the the field was fanned 4 across the track at the top of the lane--he sat off the pace while hugging the rail and had TONS of horse but no opening. He went for a seam and the #1 horse veered slightly left and pinched him off (IMO #1 possible DQ). Clipped heels, stumbled badly, and Talamo lost his balance and started to fall off--recovered and calmly caught everyone, making up 3 lengths inside the 16th pole--it had nothing to do with \"losing composure\"--it was a miracle ride.

The horse was the longest shot on the board and it was only the 2nd winner for Biancone since returning from his one year suspension. Only TG shows figures from England--the horse had run a number on synth in England (graded stakes) that was within a point of everyone else in the race--had a right to be played if you got past Biancone being 1-41 in SoCal.

If you want to see the race, go to calracing.com and sign up for free--you can watch all SoCal and NoCal races dating back for years. Great handicapping tool.

As far as the comment about Talamo riding at Churchill, fact is he rode only one race at Aqueduct prior to the Gotham. I\'d rather have him on my horse than 10-wide Mike Smith!  Look, I\'m not a Mullins or IEAH fan, but IWR in my mind hits the board in the Derby--Mullins has run Clydesdales there in the past and came close (finished 5th with Buzzards Bay)

BTW, the #1 horse in the Hollywood race that Talamo won was ridden by Mike Smith--how ironic.

Don\'t let my choice of words influence you. You really should watch the replay.

Smith cut the kid off, and he recovered from almost getting dumped to win the race. It was quite an effort.

Other than the Afleet Alex incident, it was the most spectacular recovery to win in the past few years...unbelievable.

jimbo66

Flighted,

If you are going to make horses \"automatic tosses\" just because Talamo is riding them, I can only say I wish I could book your bets.

I am not a Talamo apologist, but the race yesterday was not his fault, Mike SMith\'s horse veered out causing the incident.  Talamo was athletic enough to keep from falling off, and persevered to win the race.  Very very nice ride.  He also gave I Want Revenge a very nice ride in the Wood.  On the other side of the coin, he showed poor judgment pumping hard on IWR in the Gotham when the horse was ahead 6 lengths in the stretch.  Completely unnecessary and a \"rookie mistake\" IMO.

As for the ride on Santa Teresita, I have disagree with Covelj on that one.  I understand why people who bet on Santa Teresita would be upset but I watched the race live the first time and watched a replay twice and I can pinpoint the mistake.  He chose to save ground and a hole didn\'t open until late.  In hindsight people wanted him to sweep 4 wide on the backstretch?  Talamo saved ground on both turns and the horse had time and room to win, if good enough.  She wasn\'t.

Why any TG user would be betting that horse at 3-5 is a completely different story and worse than any mistake Talamo made IMO.

covelj70

Jimbo,

When you are riding the best horse, your job is to keep them out of trouble.  If you need a ground saving trip to beat a horse that\'s better than you, that kind of ride would be fine but not on the best horse like he had last Sat.

Talamo will be a great rider but he needs to get stronger first to be able to better control his horse.  He\'ll get there, I just don\'t think it will be before next Sat and that\'s a big risk to IWR.

Flighted Iron

Jimbo,

Book bets? A bit aggressive. If its my money you want then I\'ll give 2 shots
a side on the course of your choice for any amount you can count. If it\'s your
point that I\'m wrong regarding Talamos judgement then we\'ll have to agree to
disagree.Talamos athleticism won\'t get him there,that\'s a question of the horse.
Talamo is there for his craft and wit.I think he\'s a touch green in those
departments.
