I can\'t see how a horse having 5 weeks between races can be a negative as long as he is in the hands of a good trainer. Take Deep Impact Japans best horse. His career has entailed 10 lifetime races of which the 28 days is the least time between races. His last race was after a 42 day break and all he did was set a track record.

I don\'t believe it\'s so much the time between the Fl Derby and Ky Derby as the fact he\'s raced ONE time in three months. To me, that is the unorthodox move... as well has having ONE recorded workout since the FL Derby - an easy 5f breeze. Horses that win the Derby are usually cranked up and jumping out of their skin - they are primed.

Conversely, SNS runs a fantastic IL Derby and comes back with a bullet 5f and a bullet 6f with his race coming only four weeks before the Ky Derby.

Also, let\'s not compare a four yr. old in Japan running 16f on the turf to a spring 3 yo going 10f on the dirt.

You do realize I was †alking about Deep Impact\'s entire career so far. Starting with a 10F win as a 2yr old in Dec. 2004. It was turf that I can agree with you.
