I’m not going to lead this, at least not near term. But most previous racing boycotts were done wrong.

The only way to do it is A) target one track, on one day, then a different track, on a different day, etc. The economic impact of the boycott has to be made clear. B) have your ducks in a row before starting. That involves getting the big players on board. C) Play the pools that CAW players can’t play in. The X Country pick 5 is one, NYRA has a couple, so does GP. It’s dumb that they don’t advertise them.

I do believe there was one boycott that was pretty successful, about 20 years ago. Northern California, I think.

This weekend, I would like some folks to run a little test with a friend for us if they are so inclined.

1.  Pull up the track feed on your ADW app while you are at the track you are at live.
2.  While watching the race live, maybe even a two turn race from the rail right at the gate, and simultaneously watching on your phone, have your friend ready to roll with the CLOCK app on Stop Watch.  Have your friend hit START on the Stop Watch when the gates spring right in front of your eyes.  Have your friend hit STOP on the Stop Watch when the horses break from the feed playing on your phone.
3.  Let us all know how many seconds difference you have.  17 to 18 seconds was a recent test I completed.
4.  Next race, Place a $2 wager on your phone after the gates have sprung live but they are still loading or in the gate on the delayed video feed. Try it at one to three seconds out of the gate.  The next race try again at say 8 to 10 seconds.
5.  Let us know if you get the bet in or not after they left the gate.
6.  Go back and read the very last line of the first post in this thread after completing the exercise and consider why I may have mentioned that little hint.

On a somewhat unrelated but interesting note, Gramm\'s podcast appearance mentions how the Tote Feed for the last flash at NYRA while he was doing a study involving the late money changed to a SLOWER update and he questioned why that would be the latest update to the system. Hopefully I didn\'t butcher his thoughts here as that\'s from memory but I believe I have couched it correctly.  I think he said it went from a 10 second delay to a 30 second delay.

With all due respect Jerry, you are the perfect person to lead this. You are articulate, your product and company have lots of \"pull\" in the industry, you wager, you lead the effort in the 2 minute lock out in the win pool at NYRA, and have always been an advocate of the horseplayer.

An Op-Ed by you regarding this subject would probably be enough to get there attention on the matter.

My opinion only.

TGJB

Go to the TDN website, do a search for my name, and read the Op-Ed I wrote on CAW. People all over the industry told me it was great. And it made absolutely no difference.

EVEN if they could bet after the gate sprung,   why do you think thats such a big deal ?

Would be magical if they could make a judgement and place bets in that few seconds .    95% of the time the start has nothing to do with the outcome.  Many times, bad , troubled starts produce winners

I\'ve seen no evidence they use the start at all in their wagers.

Roman

I have , and it was. We need a leader. Someone in the business, who is willing to lead a boycott.
No offense Jerry, you fit the bill. Just a suggestion.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

What data/metrics that are easily accessible to the general public are you using to support your conclusion?

Go to Chat GPT and ask it “how to organize a boycott against major racetracks and ADWs for unfair betting practices “( tweak the question as you like). After a lengthy response Chat advised me, in conclusion, “A successful boycott of racetracks and ADWs would require clarity of demands, coalition building, targeted actions on high visibility days and media amplification. Sporadic individual protests won’t move the needle- but an organized data backed and media savvy effort could”. Chat will then ask if you want  follow up info. As you will see, Chat knows about CAWs and will provide you history ( if you ask nicely) of previous similar boycotts. Guys- knowledge is power. The only name that comes to mind as a leader is Michael Beychock but he has likely had enough ( TGJB would know better). Ranting is useless. As the Meyer Lansky character said in Godfather II- “ ah, whatI wouldn’t give for twenty more years “. Good luck. R

That’s the biggest hurdle how to organize this.

Are CAWs allowed at Kentucky Downs?

If Jerry has a conversation with Dave Portnoy and a track and date is selected, the players will listen and join. Love or hate Dave, he has the audience. The motivation is there now...its different than a year ago. Everyone has had enough and a boycott is needed now.

I wonder if the CAW have gotten more aggressive , if they think their days might be numbered.     No reason to play nice if thats the case.

Just a thought

Roman

This time it might be different. The situation has gotten worse.

We all could do more. Given deals to certain people defeats the whole purpose of pari-mutuel wagering.

The search feature here has been broken for a long time. Not sure why

Pretty sure I said rebates for some vs the public was a bad thing

A good 20 years ago , give or take

I think Social Media will allow people to organize more. This might take several months. But a large visible group will get peoples attention. And then if 2026 is the year of Boycotts. This will get people\'s attention.

This will be a process getting organized. But it can be done and an impact made and felt. I do whatever I can to help. When the NFL started taking knees i went 9 weeks without watching a Single Game. I have discipline. When the Tracks are giving a priority to Shady Characters and Corruption at the expense of the little guys time to stand up, unite and be heard!!!
