Better declare the 4 and 3 non-starters.

jerry

Umm, kind of splitting hairs with the 4’s false start.

jerry

Ok, I concede. He did break through.

Clearly both the 4 and the 3 should have been non-starters.

Th 4 broke through the gate; the gate assistant never let go, the filly was out of control and wiped out the 3. I think she even impeded the 2.
Maybe that one should have been a non-starter also.

Oh well, another way to lose a race.

Gate problems. According to the charts yesterday, there were 31 incidents of horses having issues at the gate.

There was a Saratoga meet once where there were huge issues with the gate crew and starter beginning from opening day.  The outcry was so huge there was talk of firing the starter and gate crew and starting from scratch. I don\'t remember which decade that was in -- either the 90s or the 00s.  Something like that.

NYRA historically has had issues with its gate crew unlike any other track in America.  I don\'t know why that is.  At times, it is so bad that I would mark down out of circuit shippers who were need the lead types.  It was not unusual to see in a horse\'s PPs a slew of great first quarters but for whatever reason it could never do it in NY (and not due to better horses being in NY).

At least 20 horses again yesterday had issues at the gate including the 5th race. I agree with socalman3 that this has become an everyday issue that needs to be looked at.

Is it possible that the many horses having gate issues is because someone IS looking at things closer??

jerry

It’s New York and it’s a wagering event. Why would you expect anything else?
