I will try again. FACT: Linda Rice has been a leading trainer--sometimes THE
leading trainer--at multiple NYRA meets.

Once again off the turf racing likely cost Chad the outright training title.
How many Chad horses were scratched in off the turf races? How many Linda Rice
MTOs won? The facts are out there.

More so than the other NYRA top trainers--Brown, Pletcher, Mott, Clement--Rice
is heavily involved in the claiming game. She could not have had the success
she has enjoyed without being able to move horses up.

Like PDub says, facts or statistics always welcome.

I can't. It's a conclusion I arrived at at some point in the meet. Her horses were being backed off of suspect lines that didn't seem to stack up with the competition. They often ran to their odds.

I'm curious how the analysis rated their chances. I know that's a very general question but am I the only one who was surprised by the success of some of her runners?

How many off the turf races did Linda Rice win?

jerry

And I will say again I was surprised by the performance of some of her horses based on their figures coming into their races and the timing between their last races. Were you not? If not you had a good meet.

So, is it a possibility that some positive tests will be coming? If so, NYRA will cover it up as they did with Forte. Why did NYRA not report that Forte tested positive after the Hopeful? If the turf writers were aware of the positive would he have been a two-year-old champ?

jerry

My hunch is it is something for which there is no test. Just like Servis and Navarro. Pardon my cynicism.

I'd love to see the sheet on Pioneering Spirit post Baruch. If I remember correctly he jumped forward about 3pts. in his race prior to the Baruch then won the Baruch on 9 days rest. I could be mistaken.

jerry

For the record, nothing about off the turf races surprises me.

Linda Rice is having a career year and it is not complete yet. She is the 10th ranked U.S. trainer by $ won @ 7M+per equibase. She has been winning at a 25% clip and wps @ 60%.

Linda Rice:

Previously, trainer Rice had a nice run in 2017, 2018, 2019, then tailed of noticeably in 2020 followed by a steady climb back until breaking through this year.

As you mentioned she has been on the radar because of her expertise in the claiming game. Well known for her success at buying horsese out of form and patiently bringing them back when they are again competitive. Ms. Rice had her license revoked a few years back and her slump coincided with that period. She appealed and the NYRA revocation was overturned.

She trained City Zip for Stronach to become a celebrity.

Ritchie, On a subjective note I found the TV series Astrid et Raphaëlle fascinating unfortuneately its French with english substitles.

JEB

Her revocation was not drug related. It had to do with getting insider information  on the condition book of the NY circuit if i recall.

Baffert\'s vet placed on probation August 21st.  Take a look at bloodhorse for the article.

Havenameltdown necrospy report reflects poorly on the barn as a whole as best as I understand it also.

Twitter folks put the heat on this topic for those of you that aren\'t on there.

Wow.  Getting wild out there.

Baffert still 29% winners since the vet placed on probation.  But some scratches also as discussed here.

No entries in the Debutante.

FIVE (5) is the correct answer.

First, NYRA did not cover up the Forte test result.  The NYS Gaming Commission, not NYRA, was responsible for drug testing.

Second, the HIWU of HISA is now doing the drug testing in New York.  They report positives very promptly, much to the dismay of the HBPA.  See, e.g.:
