Oaklawn: Bet this, not that…

There's been a reversal of fortunes for two power trainers at Oaklawn:

ROBERTINO DIODORO has gone cold. He's won 1 out his last 34 starts. And the win was life-and-death by a neck at 3-5. Far from his norm.

KARL BROBERG, after a horrendously bad start, has won 6 of his last 12 starts (with 3 seconds).

Broberg was useless and hapless in NY

Any reason why that would be the case??  Seems to have abandoned the circuit for now.   Would have thought the lower class winter racing would suit just fine .

I suspect certain power trainers who have horses on multiple circuits (Asmussen, Diodoro, Broberg) have only 1 go-to "A" private vet. That is... er, a guy who's "most aggressive medically." If that vet services Broberg's Remington meet, he can't be with him at the beginning of Oaklawn. The guy takes an-end-of-year vacation and then shows up in February at Broberg's barn. Suddenly, the barn returns to life. His horses pop. Something like that. Not too far-fetched a scenario. The private vets behind closed doors effect/control the game, including the Baffert situation. And of course, no one talks about them. They're invisible to the public at large. You'd think after the Derby DQ that the racing press would interview NOT BAFFERT, but his private vets! Right? WRONG! Not a peep! No so-called journalist dared to ask Baffert's vet a question!

Good answer to my somewhat rhetorical question

Combined winners for Baffert, Asmussen, Cox, Diodoro, and Broberg on the Rebel Card today: ONE.  Asmussen maiden winner who shook clear easily early and set slow fractions and won easy.

You know, the card that Asmussen shoots for that no one else does.  You know, the card, Baffert wins the Rebel in year after year after year.

I don\'t know if all the vets are on vacation or if new surveillance is starting to happen or different testing protocols??  But today. . . Lukas won with a filly that is TC nominated and nearly won the Rebel after 4w 4w trip.

I guess Bob\'s horse just didn\'t fire.  And the other one that didn\'t ship just really was scared of airplanes.  LOLOL.  Those that said they didn\'t like Yu should have no fear as her friend B squared (as she said on air today). . . will get all the real answers I\'m sure.

Meanwhile in Dubai, Pinehurst just kept finding on the front end.  And Country Grammar was close to a sizzling pace and nearly won off a layoff of how long????

Jimmy was in Dubai and Bob was on his couch.  No \"luck\" in Hot Springs when that happens LOLOL

EDIT:  \"I thought he was in a good spot. When the running started, he didn\'t have it today. But that happens,\" Baffert said. \"He didn\'t show up today. I really can\'t think of any excuses.\"

Apparently Baffert couldn\'t take any chances at Oaklawn....that horse was probably scrubbed clean of anything that might result in new charges and accusations.  In fact, this may prove to be the case wherever he enters a horse outside of his safe SoCal home.  Keep an eye on it and bet accordingly.

Diodoro Dex positive. Where have we heard this before?

You can now safely return to betting Diodoro at OP. His bad month is over there. He\'s won 2 today in mid-card. He\'s back on Broadway with the zotz.

Since no one wanted to actually answer this, I\'ll give it a shot.  Likely a rhetorical question I know but again to make my point, I\'ll give it a shot.

1.  Merneith.  Bob Baffert had a positive for Dex.  Luckily, he had a legitimate explanation for the postive test as his attorney told the media.  From Bloodhorse.com:

\"The groom that had Merneith had (COVID-19), and when he came back, he was treating a cough with Dayquil and Nyquil,\" Robertson said. \"We believe that\'s how the horse came into contact with that substance because you would never give a cough suppressant to a horse. It\'s just another case of contamination.\"

2.  Servis/Navarro/Rhien.  From Bloodhorse.com

According to the indictment, Rhein further stated that, if anything, the SGF-1000 may appear on a post-race drug test as a false positive for a different substance \"Dex.\" (While the indictment didn\'t offer further detail, people commonly refer to Dexamethasone as \"Dex.\") The indictment later says that same day Servis discussed Maximum Security\'s drug test with another veterinarian who agreed to falsify records to make it appear as if the racehorse had received \"Dex.\"

My guess is that Oaklawn asked Diodoro for an autograph and gave him the $1000 fine to keep the betting public happy.  Thank goodness he is back on track with getting up early and working harder than the rest of the folks on the backside.
