With the temps expected to be above 95 Saturday could they affect horse performance? Was going to take the trip up but thinking twice about that.

The forecast for Saturday is 97 degrees with lots of humidity.
The sky just opened up. It’s like a car wash outside.

Get a place with reliable air conditioning. Unfortunately that would exclude most of the race track especially the club house. It’s crowded and ceiling fans just down cut it.

Who cares about horse performance?  Worry about yours or you will be Mr Unlucky!!!  Go there when it\'s nice.  If you can\'t relax (and 95+ is NOT relaxing) even if you do perform (and odds go down with every degree) you won\'t enjoy the experience.  You\'ll be wondering where you can get cool as opposed to watching the horses or tote.   Stay home and pick your best races.  Then, if you lose (less than on track) you\'ll think \"How great (and lucky) I didn\'t go and lose AND suffer!\"  Just my 2 cents.

I will be taking the 3 hr drive by myself tomorrow, and boy do I need it, I don\'t care if it snows

Any chance they cancel the card because of the heat? Does NYRA have a precedent with this?

HEAT CONCERNS

The New York Racing Association will be keeping an eye on the forecast for this weekend, especially Saturday, when Saratoga Springs could be hit with a heat index in triple digits.

Delaware Park in Oceanport, N.J., has already canceled Saturday\'s, in light of a National Weather Service forecast of temperatures in the 90s and a heat index approaching 110.

The cancellation came upon the recommendation of the Chief Commission Veterinarian of the Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission.

Not sure what you\'re quoting. but I didn\'t realize Delaware Park was in New Jersey!

Heat index chart. https://www.weather.gov/safety/heat-index
Looks iffy for racing with temps in the mid 90\'s and 60% humidity in the forecast.
Add in the pressure if something happens in these conditions.

My bad for not self correcting the misinformation.
Also up on the Del Park website.

no worries, I was just struck by the long slow decline of the newspaper biz!

There was a precedent...NYRA cancelled a card for hot weather about 10 years ago (Frank D. might be able to give the exact year)...My guess is that they run on Saturday... Monmouth Park might be an entirely different situation...Is going to be 5-10° hotter than Saratoga...the \'real-feel\' temp. (Includes the effect of the humidity) will be 110°+

Bet Twice

Pick a different weekend, will be brutal up there in that heat.  Not an enjoyable experience.
