Spoke to someone late yesterday who is in the know in Bluegrass area and they said the deal is in the works. With his pedigree his value is between $15M-$18M today after recent Grade One win. The upside of winning a Derby or even a Triple Crown is $25M. Not enough financial upside potential and too much Risk Regression to the downsideto keep running him.

The Derby and Triple Crown Trophys and prestige are meaningless to these groups. Baffert will be coy and say he intends to run him next year at 3. But its on good word. You have seen this one run for rhe last time. Its off to the Breeding Shed....

If true, this is a sad commentary on the sport. We have gotten used to top horses being retired after their 3YO season losing their army of fans to the sport. Then we had Justify not even completing his 3YO season. Now we may have Game Winner retiring after his baby season, disappointing even more potential fans and not even running in the Derby and TC races, which frankly are the only races most people even care about. Imagine any other sport surviving if all their top athletes retired as pre-teens. Yes the sport is increasingly becoming purely a breeding business but if the sport dies the business dies with it. They are killing the goose that laid the golden egg in the name of short term greed.

If true they need to pass a ruling that a horse cannot breed until 5.
This is 100% thing that is killing this sport and the breed.

Its a Commodity Trading game now. A buy program or sell program kicks in depending on the side you\'re on and moves deals get made. This is no longer a sport for the fans, or about wins or prestige. Its like trading corn or cattle or hogs....

I don\'t know if the same rules still apply but in Germany the Jockey Club knew what they had to do to protect the survival of the sport and no horse could stand at stud unless they had raced at least 2 full seasons drug free.
