Did anyone see the photo?  How in the world did they know the winner so quickly?  I went frame by frame on my DVR - looked like a dead heat to me.  The tv coverage must have had a bad angle - that is my only thought.

FWIW, a friend was on track and said the photo they showed made it look very close, maybe an inch or so separating them.

Just watched replay again - announcer states, \"one for the judges\".  8 seconds after they hit the line, they announce the winner.

The amazing thing is how long things like this usually take in the United States.  How long does it take to find a photo and look at it?  Why do patrons have to be treated to one or more slow-motion reruns of the pan shot rather than just looking at a relevant photo?

And stewards\' decisions:  how long does it take you to decide whether a horse should be taken down?  The stewards should already have decision in mind before they talk to the jocks and, in most cases, be prepared to announce it almost immediately thereafter.

My guess was they were using Trakus to make an educated guess at who crossed the wire first, and then consulting to confirm? But it\'s just a guess.
